“Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, with the exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws”- How very true, Rich….

  2. LeeMaz

Loved the nod to the new series – Wales. Thanks for cheering up what was another tedious day writing essay’s for University!

  3. Rich

    Corsarius: That’s Hilary’s line! :D

  4. Cleverest Name

“is that in Ireland?” hehehe. I think that Flowerdew man looks like someone from a Disney film, but there’s nothing wrong wiith that!

  5. Firekat

i believe your thinking of pinnochio’s human father, cleverest….

  6. Mitchell Craig

    “Ireland.”
    ;)

  7. nightfly

Firekat – I got a Maurice vibe from him (Belle’s inventor father). Is his horse named Phillippe?

Wales… that makes my day. “Why, Richard, it profits not a man to trade his soul for the whole world. But for Wales?” Well played.

  8. M'reen

Also loved the ‘Wales’ bit :)

Beverly seems more accepting of her role this time, not bothered over not being introduced.

  9. Kalontas

Now we only need someone to start wondering how to spell “Gallifrey”. “Caulifreagh” or “Caleifraig”. ;)

  10. Taliesin

It’s in Wales so it would be spelled something like GALIFFIU. 1 F is pronounced as a V, 2 FF’s = F. U=Y and if it had 2 LL’s it would make a thl sound so I’d say only 1 L.

  11. Koki

    “Gallifrey…Is that in Ireland?”
    “Wales”.
    - Rich, in the words of Donna Noble “I bloody love you!” :D

  12. Jonathan

When you Google Siderstone, with an “I” this comic is the first hit. Good job!

  13. RiviEmoKid

Isn’t it the 10th Doctor who says (when he turns human) that he thinks Gallifrey is in Ireland?

  14. Countess

Mr. Flowerdew also has a Disney sort of name.

I’ve only ever seen “chirurgeon” written, I don’t think I’ve ever heard it out loud. Is it pronounced the way it’s spelled, or is it pronounced “surgeon”?

  15. gorramKayna

Contess: From my experience, neither. I’ve mostly heard it pronounced kiurgeon. Like surgeon only replace the s with the first syllable of Kite.

  16. Hilary

Countess: John Flowerdew (and yes, we also giggled) is the actual historical name for the actual historical steward of Siderstone/Syderstone/Siderstern/etc. who worked for Robert Dudley and possibly also his FIL before him. We thought he sounded like a hobbit, ourselves.

  17. Blobert

I’m kinda just wondering why my page says that on basically every comic strip, everyone is up at two to four in the morning. On this particular page, for example, the very first comment at the top of the page, about the speed of light and bad news, says it was written at 4:12 AM. I might know why, but I’m wondering if someone else sees me posting this around 11 o’clock at night or the real time that I’m typing this: 5:56 PM… Just curious… Are you guys REALLY up that early?????

  18. Hilary

Blobert – you’re seeing server time, not your local time. We’re on the east coast of North America, but our server is located in California.

  19. Jonn Wolfe

    LOL Wales. hehehe

  20. WalksInEternity

RiviEmoKid: Yes, but the line was first used in the Fouth Doctor story, The Hand of Fear.

  21. solar penguin

The name Flowerdew always reminds me of The Goon Show (the camp, effeminate character played by Peter Sellers). This guy just looks wrong for the part.

  22. GammaBob209

solar penguin: OMG, i hadn’t even thought of that until you mentioned that! Now, I won’t be able to look at him without thinking “Eccles, mind what yer doin’ with that long-handed SHOVEL!!”
    LoL….too funny….

  23. Grimley Fieendish

Is “Gallifreigh” located somewhere near Cardiff, methinks…? Or is it near Stockbridge, Mummerset…?
As for the character played by Peter Sellers, in the Goon Show, that was potentally “Camp”, was that Gripney-Thynne…?

  24. Blobert

OMG! You guys are on the east coast for real??? All the spellings and Doctor Who stuff made me think you were British! That is so cool! If you didn’t guess, I’m on the east coast, too.Let’s hear it for American Doctor Who fans, proving that the best show on earth is international !!! Woo hoooooo!!!!!! :-D

  25. Hilary

Blobert: I hate to burst your bubble after such excitement, but we’re on the east coast of *Canada*. There’s more than one country in North America, my dear duckies. ;)

  26. nievesg

And I’m in Spain (almost the same time zone as Britain), so no idea at what “server time” my comment will be posted… it’s 23:53 here and I’m trying to write for a job but it’s so late… thanks for the Gallifrey/Wales nod, it just woke me up a little bit! Loved it!

  27. Continuity Watcher

@Grimley Fieendish: It’s Grytpype-Thynne, according to the script book. Hercules Grytpype-Thynne.

  28. Romanadvoratrelundar

XDD Gallifrey.. is that in Ireland? That joke will *never* get old!~

  29. Cathulu

    Gallifrey.
Rather a stuffy place if you ask me. Their Bureau of Tourism could use some work if you ask me.

Oh and orange grass stains are nearly impossible to get out.

By the way John Dee says hi.

    Bow before Cathulu!

  30. solar penguin

    @Grimley Fieendish

Yes, Grytpype-Thynne was potentially camp, but Flowerdew was very camp and effeminate. (He wasn’t one of the main characters, and not in every episode, so that’s probably why you’re having trouble remembering him.)

  31. Shinyteapot

    ‘Wales’. Love it :D

The first panel looks particularly good, all that detail. The perspective seems (to my untrained eye) spot on.

  32. Blobert

No, still cool!!! No bursting bubbles here!!!

  33. Bill M.

WalksInEternity: I watched the production notes of the Hand of Fear when it went through the episode, and it seemed even then it was old hat to assume Gallifrey was in Wales. I’ll rewatch it, but I think it was Jaime (who also gave him the alias of Dr. John Smith) that figured Gallifrey was Welsh.

  34. WalksInEternity

Bill M.: *Jamie* can’t have guessed that Gallifrey was in ‘Wales’ (or Ireland as per my quote), as the actual name of the Doctor’s home planet wasn’t introduced into the series until the 1973 Pertwee story The Time Warrior, years after Jamie had departed during The War Games (that story first named the Doc’s people as Time Lords, but didn’t mention their planet once).

  35. Refusenik1

I have a feeling Blobert’s bubble may be intrinsically unburstable.

  36. 494alex

    @Solar Penguin
In one of the Goon Show episodes Eccles is guarding Grytpype at gunpoint and humming to himself. Grytpype wants to escape so he tells him to close his eyes to ‘get the feeling’ of his singing/humming. Eccles isnt fooled and says if he closes his eyes he wont be able to see him. Grytpype then says [rather intimately] “Will you miss me?”
Has to be the clearest indication of his sexuality out of all the potential camp moments XD

  37. Marty McFly

Please note: this is NOT a complaint.. the hiatus of this Doctor Who story forced me with glee to read the YAFGC ..in it’s entirety! Took me about a week and a half to read all 1000+ pages (and I now get the “Jone of Orc” pun) .. Loved it! I’m now a regular reader of YAFGC and the Doctor Who comic. Waiting to see more of the current storyline.

  38. Blödi

Well Done, Very interesting. Can’t wait for more!!

  39. Anna

Aww, I ran out of pages… Now I’ll have to wait :( But at least my mum finished my christmas present… a Fourth Doctor scarf!! :P

  40. camilledavros

Gallifrey is in wales, who new?
