First! Cool! Could this be the start of something new! Another superb crossover story?
Say YES! Having a vampire assistant/companion would definately make for interesting stories!
OMG YES!!!!
More cool crossover stories
YES.
The direction. It is good.
I bet you Janette will say no.
Ooo! Jeanette, the Vampire Companion! That would really be something!
Dare I hope?
I never saw FK, but then i barely have seen any Who stories (except season 1, thanks to some anonymous site, and what has been shown here in germany) and i still feel i know all the characters, thanks to Rich´s great art.
But my hope, since this is called “Forever Janette”, that this wa only the prelude, the introduction and we can go on for some hundred or more pages with adventures of the Doctor and Janette.
too much? okay, but then let me at least say, once more, THANK YOU Rich.
and, hillary, would you mind to let us know which jokes where hidden in the last page?
oh and thank you too, of course, for everything
Yeah I totally saw this coming.
Sadly, I can’t fathom a situation where she’d say yes. She wishes to find her own way.
You cannot even begin to imagine the enormity of the grin etched on my face right now. Please, please, please have her say yes!
I know you’ll have her say no, but it’s such a wonderful thing to imagine.
Ahh, yes. How will Janette decide? I think Rich can make it seem right either way. I’m hoping (against hope) for a yes. Janette certainly deserves a better sendoff than that “Human Nature” episode.
Rich, you TEASE!!
Since the 8th Doctor’s adventures are largely unknown, a continued crossover would not only be logical, but highly welcomed. That all said, it is still a 50-50 toss up, and the sentiment is leaning toward a NO response..
Ahhh, but we can dream about it right? Maybe a quickie secondary adventure? Something to consider, my friend…
ah! perhaps the doctor cures her of vampirism….
Although I think she might turn it down, its a good idea that its the Doctor who cures Janette… That actually makes sense. :/
Hmmm… this brings up the question of whether or not Rich considers any of the post-movie adventures of the 8th Doctor (the Dr. Who magazine comic strips, Missing and New Adventure novels, the radio episodes) canon.
So the Doctor is going to bring Janette to cure her of her vampirism, and when she returns she’ll just *say* it was overwhelming grief? RIch, you love keeping us anxious for more.
Will this be put to vote? (Of course not.) But i’ll say “yea” to Janette-as-companion. Why not?
Awwe. Very sweet. And possibly a lot more logical than season 3 reasoning
If she says yes (fingers crossed) I do have to wonder if the Chameleon Arch might eventually come into play.
Oooo. Now if she accepts we’ve got two great Rich-created matchups out there for future stories in 2/2.5/Zoe/Jamie and 8/Janette (crosses fingers, murmurs please under his breath).
Thank you for yet another amazing comic. Your comics actually started me reading webcomics, and I’m currently actively tracking four. Thank you.
Intriguing plot twist, Rich, but I think this situation would present many, many practical problems and ethical dilemma’s for the Doctor. 1. He travels to many places and times – days and nights. Janette would be stuck in the TARDIS except for nights, correct? Actually, most star systems have 2 or more stars, so finding a “night” might be very difficult in most planets and moons. 2. What would Janette eat? I am 100% certain the Doctor would not want her to feed on other beings and possibly spread vampirism faster around the Universe. 3. As I’ve mentioned before, the Doctor is a Time Lord, the sworn enemy of the Great Vampires. Time Lords destroy Great Vampires and (logically) lesser vampires like Nick, LaCroix, and Janette. Sorry to be a “downer” to your cool idea Rich, but I just don’t see this one making sense in terms of established continuity in the Whoniverse. If you could convince me otherwise, I would listen.
Well I didn’t see this coming at all.
Oooh, I seem to recall a Forever Knight epi where Jeanette comes back having been cured? I can’t remember the how or why, but I clearly remember Nick confronting her on how she did it. I wonder if Rich has yet more continuity holes to fill…
One idea: Maybe the Doctor could take Janette to Paris – present or past. Maybe he could stop her vampirism from ever happening, eh? Of course, that would be no fun for “Forever Knight” fans, but that is one of the cool things about the Doctor…he *could* do it if there were no temporal restrictions (fixed points vs. points in flux).
If you could convince me otherwise, I would listen.
xenoblatta: You are welcome to read and critique his story as you see fit, of course, but I don’t recall Rich being obligated to explain anything to anyone.
In other words, your entitlement is showing. Best tuck that back in.
kensaido: You’re thinking of the third season episode “The Human Factor” [ptui ptui]
Somehow, I don’t see Janette going for this. Always the independent-minded one, she was.
Awww… The way eight offered her a trip is so sweet…!
poor eight. Unable to help people, has Nine slam the Tardis door in his face, destroys Gallifrey and here is
But I’m guessing it will be a no? Or if she does go with him, from what I’ve seen of Janette’s character, I’m guessing she wouldn’t stick around for long.
going to be quite possibly rejected by Janette
I fear I must point out 2 xenoblatta that this is Rich’s story, and therefor he will choose what happens. As the Eigth Doctor and Janette both have significant gaps in show chronology in which 2 travel, and both are long lived, there is no reason why they can’t travel 2gether 4 a time. If Janette says yes.
Very good page, Rich. You don’t have 2 convince me, I would believe whatever you write.
Of course, I only know Janette from this comic, but it looks to me like it could go either way. I’m confident enough in Rich’s skill as a writer that I’m sure he could make either option work.
lol @ Koki’s comment
yeah 8 sure has had a rough time recently… especially in Rich’s comix…
She doesn’t have to be a companion per se. He just has to help her to do what Hillary talked about earlier.
Me, I’m just glad to see him again before it’s all over.
OH… Oh THAT would be MAGNIFICENT! (And, as I understand it, a far FAR better ending to the Forever Knight series than what was actually aired…)
Hi Hilary,
Tsk. Tsk. I never said Rich was obliged to do anything for me personally. He is a storyteller. He can convince me (and other fans) through more good stories if he wishes. As a fan of Doctor Who and Rich’s work, I only pointed out problems with a potential storyline that he may chose to pursue or not.
Peace,
xenoblatta
I really hope she goes with the Doctor. I think she won’t, but here’s hoping! Great plot twist, Rich!
always the compassionate one 8 and a very sad one too!
poor doctor and poor jannete both very deep characters!
both have there cross to bare (oh that was corny sorry)
wonderful page rich!
This could’ve made for some interesting Ten Doctors scenes. “So, you have that vampire as a companion yet?” “Vampire? What’re you talking about?!” “Oops.”
Yeah, we knew it. Now the question is: Will she accept? Please say Yes, please say yes!!! *beg beg*
I don’t know what projects you are planning for the future Rich, but I personally would love to see stories featuring 8 and Janette. Though I haven’t seen much of Forever Knight, I enjoy her character as you’ve portrayed it here. Or perhaps you have something even more astounding in mind. Again, your creative stories have been an utter delight to read.
I can imagine the TARDIS having safety protocols specific to vampire intrusion that the Doctor may or may not have had the forethought to disable. At the least, I can see the cloister bell going off as soon as Janette steps inside (if she does). I wonder whether that would cause some other alarm to go off back on Gallifrey? I doubt they would any timelord (even the Doctor) to willingly invite a vampire into their TARDIS. But then wackiness could ensue.
Will she or won’t she (accept the Doctor’s offer)? Find out next time. Man, things are winding down. There’s no cliffhanger feel. I guess this is close to the end. What will be the next story?
I so wish she would say yes! The Doctor needs company, and apparently so does Janette.
Hmm, is this an alternative answer to the How Janette became human question in S3?
This… seems so horribly wrong, yet so horribly right at the same time.
*gets popcorn*
Lovely! Janette, if you’re tired of life and wish something new, that’s the way!
Besides, nobody knows how Janette became human. It would be just fitting that the Doctor did it But by using molecular engineering, not taking her back in time for a paradox. The Doctor hates paradoxes!
By the way, I don’t think there’s any problem with human vampires at the Tardis, they have almost nothing left of the great old vampires. And even if there was any trouble, it was fixed for Jack, why can’t it be fixed for Janette.
YES! This was the offer I was hoping for.
Lets hope the Doctor has plenty of Sunblock 5000 handy, otherwise poor Janette might find some planets very, very uncomfortable indeed….
Also, given the Teapot reference in the last strip, how would Janette react to Nyssa’s Teapot collection…? (Or has that been carefully packed away…?)
