Just finished Forever knight, and OMG, this page has a whole lot more meaning now. Good work Rich!

  2. DeathlySerenity

    Emo feelings XD

    You crack me up Rich.

    Fantastic page as usual :)

  3. Jonn Wolfe

    EEeeeemmmmooooooo!

    Awesome stuff Rich!

  4. Mass

Fantastic…. all we need now is the Doctor saying goodbye, slipping into the TARDIS and dematerialising….

  5. M'reen

Natalie and Nick, always the emo tag bit – which means we need the Doctor to say his goodbyes too, and what will they say?

  6. Mendez

    Immortality’s a curse really.
    Who want’s to live forever?
P.S. Sorry Rich. I suffer horribly from thin skin.
    ;)

  7. GammaBob209

    Excellent.
Emo feelings aside, this episode encapsulates more of what I remember from FK than anything we’ve seen so far. Well done on the writing, Rich.
Plus, Natalie looks fantastic; you’ve really nailed the likeness this time around.
So…..where do we go from here?

  8. mrfranklin

Oh, Rich, you NAILED Natalie’s likeness in panel 3! (It’s all in the eyes – hers are so distinctive…) And the sets are perfect, too – the outside of the building, Nick’s apartment… You amaze me. Your art is top notch, and you have captured the flavor of both series just perfectly. So yeah, maybe it’s “emo,” but that’s the way FK always ends. ;)

    Beautiful work!

  9. WhiteZinnia

This is simply perfect FK! From the exterior shot of Nick’s loft (the location now sadly upscale condos—but they kept the water tower!) to Nick’s angsting and Natalie’s sympathy, it’s the distillation of the core of the FK universe. Please, please use Nick and Co. again in another story!

  10. violinvictory

ha, ha mendez, I was just thinking of the Queen song, Who wants to live forever. So I guess things are winding down to the end. When Forever Janette is completed, will the whole story be put in download form, like the ten Doctors?

  11. Hilary

VV: definitely. It may not go up immediately – I’ve got a lot on my plate right now – and I’d love if someone could put a cbr version together as well – but the Forever Janette pdf is right up there on my list of things to do (post-’day jobs’ and ‘keep family alive’).

  12. searingdestiny

    =( poor vampire….

    great page…

  13. Radge

    PAHAHA.

Oh god. I was really sympathetic with this strip until I read “emo feelings”. Way to kill the mood Rich! xD

  14. Maki P

Aww poor Nick, and he’s right about Pierre though. And I’ve always wondered, can’t Nick die? I’ve never watched Forever Knight, but I watched Moonlight (which is probably a copy of FK) and I though that maybe he could just kill himself. Vampires can be killed? Why can’t this vampires kill themselves? Can’t they just jump into the daylight or get someone to stake them in their sleep if they can’t do it themselves? It Just Bugs Me.

  15. Mitchell Craig

Whenever I see “emo”, I think, “Phillips.”

  16. Jim

Nick going emo vampire… dear God, he’s been infected by Twilight!

  17. Arcalian

A quiet coda, to be sure.

But couldn’t the same argument be made about humans and *their* food? Even vegetarians?

  18. DJ

Great page, RIch. Especially the art. Others have already identified why–the outside scene, Nick’s apt, Natalie’s face, etc. But–the watertower view looks overly familiar to me. I did watch Forever Knight, but also another show (set in Toronto too), so I might have seen something similar. If so, then Nick Knight’s apt might be very close to Detective Peter Caine’s apt! Both series were set in Toronto, although in different time periods. And both are cops. Hmm. There could be cross-over fan fiction stories, I’ll have to search. If not, maybe I could… Anyway, I loved your style in this story and was a little dizzy from the flashbacks (but that was like FK, and Angel… it seems to be a vampire thing, yes?) but I’m eager for more (FK, with/without the Dr.) Thanks!

  19. Trevory

    Jim: top comment!

[NuWho Spoiler removed by Admin - not the place! See the forum for a thread covering this topic.]

  20. Hilary

Maki: They can and do. There’ve been a few vampires in FK canon (Erica, the Viet Kong kid from Bin Lok, Vachon’s sire, who else am I missing?) who ‘walk into the sun’ and self-immolate. Nick has come very close to doing the same thing a few times, but – at least in the modern day – Nat’s the one who pulls him back from the brink. He also deliberately subjects himself to a near-death experience in second season, and is given a message from beyond that he hasn’t done enough yet to be forgiven – that if he dies now, his soul will still suffer the torments of the damned. Nick emos about all that quite a bit, too.

And of course, there are the endless fandom arguments about the ambiguous ending of Last Knight, the series finale, of which the less said, the better.

  21. ghost2502

    Jim-Twilight!!! That utter twoddle???
thats an insult to vampires everywhere and when, twilight has “sparkly, wemo pixies” in it NOT vampires!!!!
Ahem…. teenage girl sick of f****** twilight being everywhere rant over…
Fantastic work Rich, is that the end??? or will we have a shot of the Doctor departing.
if it is the end then is the comixblog going on haitus(with exception of YAFGC) until you have worked out wots next?
long post sorry, again i say much love this comic…. bye i’ll stop talking now :-)

  22. Chryse

Great artwork as always Rich. Just going to be Miss Picky now about spelling:

    Panel 5 – there’s an ‘i’ missing from ‘Pierre’
Panel 5 – I don’t think there’s such a word as ‘revenous’. Do you mean ‘ravenous’?
Panel 6 – Possible ’s’ missing from the end of ‘vampire’, but I don’t know whether the character is French/Canadian or not, and you’re indicating her accent.

But hey – you’ve spent so much time getting the artwork right and keeping us entertained with another fabulous story that I think we can excuse you for slightly less than perfect text ;)

  23. herk

Thanks for the comment Rich – as much as I loved Forever Knight as a whole I have to whole-heartedly agree on Nick being emo (with all the negative conotations that are included in that word).

  24. The Doctor's Son

Wot are the chances that the Doctor has snuck off without sayin goodbye (again)?
I’ve enjoyed this comic, even though I’ve never watched FK.

Please, sir, I want some more!

  25. Koki

Ah the emo scene! That means we’re nearly at the end, am I right?

  26. James

Can’t believe it already seems to be nearly finished. I hope you’ll make more Doctor Who comics after it?

  27. Lord President Lundar

Emo feelings. Please tell me that we are talking about emo as in emotional and not emo as in “I like to cut myself.” :-)

  28. WhiteZinnia

Maki P: Yes, Nick can die. One major reason he doesn’t is that he is still at heart a medieval Catholic with a strong believe that suicide is utterly wrong, and that he needs to keep atoning for his sins until he is forgiven. How he will know when that happens, I don’t know.

You’d think that someone who has killed so many people in his 800 years wouldn’t worry about suicide, but there you have it. And things keep coming along that give him hope that he’ll become mortal again, so he just hangs on.

  29. Countess

DJ, yep, both shows were shot here in Toronto in the 90’s, with a lot of the same locations, and a lot of the same actors as well. (Highlander was too, if I’m not mistaken.) I would love to see that cross-over, so if you could… ;)

Great job on drawing Nick’s loft, Rich. I always wanted to live in a place just like that.

  30. Cleverest Name

If I’m not too busy this week, i might be able to put together a pdf. What is a cbr?

  31. Hilary

I’ll do the pdf, thanks. I just don’t have the program to put together a cbr (comic book reader format).

  32. Lisa

I haven’t died, I’ve been reading, honest! With my new work schedule I only wind up viewing the pages on my phone (not through the mobile thing, though) and so can’t comment, but am still loving the comic. *thumbs up!*

  33. violinvictory

I’ve been wondering what a cbr was–the ten doctors is in that format? What does it look like? I’ll have to check on the site.

  34. Serosis

    @Hilary

Isn’t a .cbr basically a .rar filled with numbered .jpg files?

  35. Hilary

Serosis: Not a clue. I just know that folks wanted one of 10 Docs, and Darren made one.

  36. garnerhaines

An incredible balancing act, servicing the needs of both shows, both genres and all the characters therein. Bravo! Another one knocked out of the park!

  37. Cleverest Name

hmm.. i’ve never used a comic book reader program. sorry.

about the page: Nat on panel 6 makes me want to watch more FK. :)

  38. The Professor

Well done comic. I don’t think we have quite seen the last page. But, one comment I want to make. I felt the Doctor (both of him) were very much under used in this tale.

  39. carol

That was perfect. It’s what I always liked about Nick. He kept his humanity where vamps like LaCroix lost theirs. Well done. :)

  40. Child of Zion

Well done! Fabulous page, Rich. Very emo-y. I like it a lot. :D

Beware of pending Twins fan explosion.

THE TWINS WIN! WE’RE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS, AND THE NEW YORK YANKEES!

    “Bring it.”

    ~CoZ

  41. Nievesg

Jim, it’s rather the opposite-Twilight is inspired in FK (not to say a copy).
Maki, yes, vampires can suicide, and actually one of Nick’s apartments’ windows was almost used for that once (Nat had to pull Nick out of the sun). But they concluded that dying for nothing had no sense, as Nick still makes more good alive than dead. Anyway, Nick would be happy if he found a chance to help someone by dying.
Rich, this last page is VERY FK. Loved it!

  42. That Guy

The soundtrack here can only be “Who Wants To Live Forever.”

  43. Maki P

Thank you guys. Apreciate the help. But I wonder if he can kill himself once he attones enough

  44. Tamfang

‘revenous’ is another form of ‘revenant’, i.e. undead.

    heh.

Plenty of people say immortality would be a curse, but I doubt many will really turn down a pill that guarantees, say, just one more year of active life.
