Janette provokes Pierre who approaches her a little too closely. Nick shoots him (and Janette!) through the shoulder, which begins to trigger another regeneration. Desperate for energy, Pierre’s mind goes, his body leaps back at Nick to obtain the energy required, but the Doctor steps in the way, hoping to appeal to the last vestige of his human spirit.

Nah, I doubt that’s where this is going. It’d screw up the whole, “keeping everything continuous” motif.
If Pierre feeds by effectively grabbing people and draining life force, maybe this is when 9 becomes 10…?
Or 8 becomes 9 ;-D
Arrgh! This is possibly the best cliffhanger in the story so far.

But I’m not sure he will. The Doctor has had/will have life force sapped out of him before/later, (depending on the way you look at it)…remember John Simm’s Master’s Laser Screwdriver…? Not to mention in the new series, he always seems to be giving out regeneration energy without actually regenerating…

I suspect that things are not as they seem in the cliffhanger. The Doctor may be helping Pierre alright. Pierre could be biting off more… I am enjoying the twists and turns of this story, Rich. Nice work, as always.
Another reason it’s good to have the 8th Doctor in this story- since we didn’t see his regeneration onscreen, Rich could decide to have him regenerate now if he so chooses, which adds to the drama. Much as I’d love to see the 9th Doctor kick all their arses, I’d rather not lose the 8th!

Hey, people generally assume that the 8/9 regeneration happened as a result of the Time War, but the show’s never been specific about that.
Although, when we first saw 9 in the episode “Rose,” he caught a glimpse of his reflection and made that comment about his ears, implying that he had only recently regenerated. If this is right after T10D for 8, then he hasn’t been through the Time War yet. So I’m guessing no regeneration.
Correct me here but the last time the Master touched Pierre it was to use him as fuel for his regeneration so given he’s touching a true timelord instead of a host body for a timelord isn’t there every chance Pierre’s ability won’t work?
Or much worse kill Pierre unless that Mawdryn episode comes into play?

8 can’t regenerate since this is a little after T10D which was shortly after 7 regenerated which means 8 still has the audio, comics and novels to fill.
Although what a scene for him to regenerate on if any.

Am pondering dressing up as Leela for Hallowe’en, but considering the weather right now, it doesn’t look like that would be tactful. BUT I wanted to dress up my German Shepherd up as K-9 and run around as 4th doctor… mostly because if I curled my hair, I’d be able to pull off the midget version of him haha. (My dog’s name is Romana, and I named my cat Shadow P after the Shadow Proclamation… yes I know I’m crazy)

But i don’t buy a regeneration here. If the Doctor does regenerate, then this series leads directly (or almost directly) into Rose? (Recall Doctor 9 looking into a mirror and speaking of “this face” as though he’s just then seeing it for the first time.) And would Doctor 8 in this series be as, well, Doctor-y if he’d just pulled the trigger on the Time Lords and Daleks? I thought the whole impetus behind Eccleston’s take was that Doctor 9 was a product of survivor guilt; Doctor 10 later tells Rose in “Journey’s End” that his previous incarnation had been “born of war.”
Nevertheless, perhaps your best cliffhanger in three stories, Rich. F***ing excellent work.

Pierre’s “draining” the Doctor of Artron energy/Lifeforce/Chi (9.delete as applicable) might hurt the Doctor but not cause a regeneration, as The 1st Doctor underwent a similar “process” in the William Hartnell story “the Savages”, but does not then immediately regenerate…
(You could also cite the Big Finish “Companion Chronicle”, The Darkening Eye, where the 5th Doctor gets partially “drained” by Damasin Hyde, in a attempt to extend his lifespan…
The attempt fails, & Nyssa gets the “energy boost”, as a result of her fighting Hyde & winning…).
I don’t think he’s going to regenerate, just because Rich would choose better Famous Last Words for 8 than “Pierre, I can help you!”

Grimley Fieendish: Also in The Dalek Master Plan, whilst the Time Destructor aged Sara Kingdom to death and quickly aged Steven, it had a much slower effect on the First Doctor, so D8 may be able to give him a few decades of life energy and still be okay (maybe the few extra years that the Rani gave him on page 192 of The Ten Doctors).
I’m also guessing that the bullet in Janette is going to have…side effects after passing through Pierre first.

I love the glowing of the gun in the dark in the fourth panel. And I can definitely hear McGann saying “I can help you” to Pierre
