As the 9th and 10th Doctors run back to their TARDISes, the 10th asks the 9th how he knew where to find him and what was going on. The 9th takes him down in Drax’s TARDIS and shows him the rebuilt, modified Time/Space Visualizer that the Doctor had abandoned long ago (in a non-televised adventure. The bit about the Daleks tracking it is not from “The Chase”, I made that up. Might follow it up with a story of my own some day.) Apparently Drax found it broken in a scrapyard on Thoros Beta. With it, the 9th Doctor, Drax and K9 have been looking ahead and intervening around the time lines to set things back on course. They boot the 10th Doctor out to keep their nick-of-timing schedule.
As a result of this, the 9th Doctor is experiencing this whole story out of order to the rest of them.

Great page as always!!!
Ha Ha Ha! So the Doctor cheated! And now Drax can make a fortune selling bootleg Beatles dvds!
So unexpected, so genius!
Yay Drax! XD Who really saved the day here ;3
So the 9th Doctor lives through the whole Dalek Tor thing BEFORE he saves Rose, and the other Doctors?
Very clever, very clever. But a question: can the Guardians be dead if they exist outside of the universe, or are their manifestations just dead temporarily until they create new ones?
oh wow. i’ve just started watching the chase as well-what a wonerfull co-inkidink!! mystery novel reader ha ha ha. love how northern nine is. OI!!!
elrossiter
wowsers Rich, you are crafty!!
FANTASTIC! IX and Drax, bend the rules and hit the Guardians for six! Well played Rich
I woudn’t have believed Nine was a cheater before now.
Lord President Lundar:
No more than the 2nd Doctor was against the Celestial Toymaker. Whoever was calling the shots was making the rules. The Doctor was just being smart enough to play their own rules against them.
ah, wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff …heh, nice touch – though it must have meant you had to watch the Chase…you poor, poor thing you…
I liked the Chase. Though I haven’t seen it in about 10 years. I have a copy of it, but I haven’t had a chance to watch it through.
WOW! that’s about all I can say….. WOW! You sir are a genius! I wish you wrote for the series!
Good point from the Doctor #9 there – the Guardians have attacked the Time Lords on their own territory – the manipulation of time. Their defeat and demise is deserved!
Brilliant! And fantastic!
AH HAH! So now we know! NIIIIIIIIIICE. Slick to. Dax even had a part to play by having the right piece of equipment! LOVE IT! Yeah but Nine knew how to fix it.
So anything else left to reveal, or have you wrapped up all the plot lines? Honestly Rich, if you could get the BBC’s okay to do ‘official’ Doctor Who comics, you would have THE best Who stories going.
So let me get this straight – when 9 first met drax near the start of this story, he viewed the time/space visualiser to see what would happen. Then he went to meet 10 and the guardians (many times), and then he went back to rescue rose from the cybermen, and so on. And the most recent ‘oldest’ appearance of 9 was leaving gallifrey on page 210.
So why was 9 trying to put dalek tor out of his misery, knowing he’d be ok?
Lol! The Chase is one of the Classic eps I have seen, so I actually know what that is.
That’s definitely a Timey-Wimey moment right there…I want to see the time line for 9 when you get it done, Rich! Because that’s just confusing…
And is 10 now headed back for the Eye of Orion? Whist 9 goes off to do the nick-of-timeing we already saw him do…
Ha, I just had a look at page 109, when 9 rescued rose from the cybermen.
Rose: Where’ve you been?
9: I had some nick-of-timing to do.
Rose: Should I ask?
9: Best not to.
Damn you’re good rich.
9 has been playing a long game. Brilliance!
It’s nice that with just one little toy we’re able to just enjoy it all now.
Snaresman: 9 probably wasn’t trying to put Dalek Tor out of his misery, just re-enacting how he’d already seen himself performing on the Time/Space Visualizer. This is probably why 9 was acting all emo recently, frustrated about knowing everything that was going to occur, yet unwilling to create a (further) paradox or risking universal implosion by altering time yet again in an already unstable event. Now, why 10 didn’t remember all this *as* 9 is another matter, maybe foreshadowing a mindwipe.
I can’t seem to find the episode though I wish I could. I love the most recent page.
To Rich: I humbly apologize for not having the patience to wait to see how you tie up loose ends. Each time I post a critique, here you go and have it all plotted out. The problem is reading a fresh page every day. It isn’t like when I first found it a year ago and had multiple pages to read at a time before I caught up with the fresh page a day. This is marvelous. How many authors get daily feedback on their work.
To WalksInEternity: It has been mentioned, either in other pieces of fiction or books about the series, that when two or more Doctors meet, their memories of the event are made foggy of the actions of their other incarnations to allow for independent action of each incarnation. This fogging of the memory may take place during the regeneration cycle as it has been noted on screen a confusion of memory post regeneration.
Well, that didn’t take too long! *grins* Thank you, Rich, for creating such a clever Nine.
Here is a link to a Youtube clip from The Chase where the Doctor has his illegal cable hook-up, watching The Beatles. Watch out for Ian Chesterton’s dancing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXNro5EntNE
The1Russter: It hasn’t been addressed on TV (and when D10 met D5 in “Time Crash”, he remembered all the event from D5’s perspective). And if it happened in Other Media, like books or audio, it isn’t canon
100% wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimy!
Rich: Regarding your commentary, I for one would love to see your interpretation of other untelevised/implied Who stories. I know you’d make them incredible.
ME TOO JIM!
OH! So that’s how it works! And 9’s seeing it all from a different, Timey-Wimey perspective…which makes me wonder how everything would have turned out if he HADN’T stopped the Cybercretins and saved Five and Four from crashing into that office building….Very very interesting…
YES! YES! I had a feeling that 9 was a bit out of sequence with the rest of the story!
Go Nine, go Nine, go go go Niiiinnne!
Perfect, Rich! Just perfect!
This is why I love this comic.
Can hardly wait to see what’s on your plate next.
Hmm… Not sure about Ten saying ‘Yes sir’ at the end there… He is te older one, and while the Doctor in any form respects tricksyness, he’s not really respectful. Unless this was a sarcastic comment? Which doesn’t really fit in either.
I enjoy the explanations given! Every time someone asks a question, the next page answers it!
Wulfae, if the first Doctor can go around calling his older selves “my boy”, (see the Five Doctors) why wouldn’t Ten say sir to a younger self? It’s like a mock salute, but not intended to be sarcastic, I think more of a joke between friends kind of thing. Rich, keep up the good work!
Why does 10 Dillly-Dallying up to episode 7 in season 3 so he can have Miss Martha Jones with him??
Great- I was waiting for some sort of explanation with 9’s knowledge – now the question is – did the 9 that joined up with the other Doctors earlier and nearly killed Dalek Tor come from before all this? Did he and Dax end up there earlier and rush out, and then when 9 left, he and Dax got the machine whirling and starting the rescues- starting with 10 and the Guardians? Or did they start working on the machine before doing any rescues and 9 knew the outcome before he saw Dalek Tor? I’m thinking Dalek Tor bit came first, 9 and Dax tackling the time/space visualizer 2nd…but either way will work.
Well explained, Chrono.
And nicely played all the way, Rich! Well done, sir.
Oooh, naughty cheater! ;D And oh dear, is that what the Space/Time Visualizer looks like? I made it into a handheld thing in my fanfic, since I wasn’t exactly familiar with it. I’d only done research into items Time Lords used and came up with it. Ah well, nobody’s seemed to notice yet.
Brilliant! Simply Brilliant!
Bravo Rich, bravo!
For those calling The Doctor a ‘cheater,’ it reminds me once when Tom Baker was attending a con, and a fan commented on an episode where The Doctor deceived the enemy with a falsehood. The fan went, ‘I can’t believe The Doctor’s a liar,’ whereas Tom went, ‘Ah, but you assume The Doctor ALWAYS tells the truth.’
As Rich said, The Doctor doesn’t technically ‘cheat,’ but finds ways to play one’s rules against themselves. In this case, Nine sensed something amiss with the whole ‘Ten Doctor’ routine and decided it best to be prepared for any contingency.
Fantastic! Rich, you took my favorite Doctor and made him simply brilliant!
I love the whole, “Got to go and stop some things that have already happened.” stuff!
wow, never expected that! Hahahaha
Ummm… I think there’s an extraneous “because” in Ten’s dialogue bubble in the fifth panel. Also, you appear to need a “get” or “be” between the words “to and “beaten” in Nine’s speech in the sixth panel.
Other than that, this installment is simply awesome, brilliant and full of win!
Brilliance, sheer bloody brilliance.
Fantastic – just brilliant.
So THAT’S how he did it. Rich, you are one hell of a master story teller.
Of course, poor Ten has to go off all on his lonesome again.
Summer – Good catch! I saw the 5th panel mishap (either because or after would work individually, but you can’t have both) but totally missed the 6th panel.
Fan-tas-tic!
Summer: That’s what I get for changing the dialogue while I’m doing the lettering.
argh.
Cracking page, as always Rick.
I think there’s a grammatical problem in panel 6 too btw.
‘Figured whoever was breakin’ the time rules needed to beaten at his own game.’
Seems to need a ‘be’ between ‘to’ and ‘beaten’
55th! Nah great twist and explanation. Rose is getting converted by the cyperman??
Gloryoski, Rich! You completely got me caught off-guard with this one. Excellent storytelling!
But tell Drax to hold on to that Time/Space Visualizer. If he can hook up a decent recording system, he can record all of those missing ‘Doctor Who’ episodes for the BBC. Mr. Troughton’s spirit would be much appreciative.
Love it, love it!
‘Specially Drax: “picked it up for a song in the Thoros Beta scrapyards”
And Nine’s “Oi!!! No dilly-dallyin’ this time!”. I’ve loved his dialogue throughout, you can hear Chris Ecclestone saying it.
WhoRU: He’s doing things out of order from the rest of ‘em. They were waaaaaaay back when…
Bravo! Bravo!
Well, this is all well and good, but I have to ask: did you PLAN this whole thing?
Were the real masterminds ALWAYS going to be the White and Black Gaurdians? Was that ALWAYS going to be part of Nine’s story?
And don’t get me started on the Silurians. I was gearing up for something to happen during that one.
Excellent page, as per always, Rich. To think these two were arguing about who was stupid on the first two pages of this comic.
Yes, the Black and White Guardians were always going to be the villains of the story. I knew that from the start. And I wanted one of the Doctors to exerience the whole story out of order. Exactly which one it was depended on how things played out. As it happened, it was the 9th Doctor because he was where I needed him to be when Drax showed up.
I also came up with and engineered a hero scene for each of the Doctors, and I can tell you coming up with one for each of them was difficult. But I weaved it all in there and it worked fairly well. The beauty of the Guardians was that they could be the chief chief villains without any of the others having to be consciously subserviant to them. That just wouldn’t have worked out for the ego fest that Doctor Who villains present.
The Silurians, alas, were part of a sub sub plot that I abandoned, so they got relegated back to cameo appearance for the sake of nostalgia only. And the Sea Devils, alas, didn’t make it at all. At some point I’ll put up a page on commentary and ideas that didn’t get to the strip.
Why does 10 Dillly-Dallying up to episode 7 in season 3 so he can have Miss Martha Jones with him??
Superb work Rich!Ah yes the Chase happens to be one of my favorite Hartnells.I just love the fact that Vicki(being from the far future)calls the beatles “classic music”.Now they are considered just that!
It reminds me of the home-built Stargate, that Sam’s ancient boyfriend made.
i’ve been racking my head and am i right in saying these are the hero scenes:
1. the valeyard trap and being saved by the companions, fitting his style, as well as generally being incharge the whole time
2. well creating 2.5 and destroying the toymaker and omega with the universe’s greates cards game
3. talking to warcheif into changing sides and then beating the sontaran to take control of the huge battle
4. the worlds greates anti aging cream! i mean beam
5. the standoff against the master, shooting up the renegade dalek flagship and risking his own life to save 4
6. taking over the renegade flag ship then leading them to be destroyed by the mechanoids (all while beleiving his was already dead!)
7.getting the movelans in on the fight and his incredible confrontation with davros
8. well, not sure if these are hero scenes but he has been the focus for some time but i gues the unveiling of the valeyards plan, and discovering dalek tor
9. too many to tell! saving everybody in the knick of time but the most heroic for me is the one with the cybermen, i mean he was even singing!
10. again hard one to say, i guess the fact that he resisted the dalek conditioning (with a little help) and then by now 10 stapel of being left alone on gallefry and unmasking the Guardian plot, must be a hero, he was the one chosen by them to decide the fate of the univserse
i think thats the prime hero scenes, also known as my excuse to list some of my favourite scenes from this epic story, and again i must congratulate you again on your incredible story Rich
Captain Shade: Now that you’ve brought it up, it reminds me of the same thing. Kind of silly that I didn’t think of it before, as I saw that episode on tv recently. XD
Oh.. Oh dear. Now I’m just completely confused. My poor head! Dx
Oh my giddy aunt, my head hurts.
Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey and it’s all relative stuff.
Doctor-Who-Fan: I’d love to answer your question, but I’m afraid I don’t understand what you’re asking. Why does 10 Dilly Dally? To see the Gallifreyan sky once more before returning to the Eye of Orion to meet up with the other hims.
McGann’s the Man: Pretty good list. But I can’t say any more about it until the comic is finished. And thank you very much.
Thank you ALL very much for all your supportive and enthusiastic replies. I’m glad you’re all enjoying it so much!
10 looks super good in panel 1
and it looks like he’s going to pee his pants in panel 4
Wonderful job on this page Rich!!
I love the look on ten’s face in panel 5 ( hahahahaha) LOL! Way to go Rich! ;]
Rich I m srry, I did’nt mean to hurt your feelings on the page 223…. Im srry :[
Ten’s comment in panel one sums up this page perfectly. And most of the story, for that matter.
Doctor Who lover!!!!!: You didn’t hurt my feelings. I just feel bad that I can’t reply to every single comment like I used to. In fact, it feels like I’m lucky to get every 25th one these days.
woah I TOTALLY FORGOT ALL about Rose! X) I don’t even remember when I last saw her in the comic! (prolly not too long, I hope…)
So is Nine’s cheating before or after he tries to kill Dalek Tor and sacrifice Rose? Was he just acting? I don’t quite buy that…
Oho! Yes, as Snaresman pointed out, that one little throwaway line way back when proves that you’ve had this planned at least since then! Marvellous stuff! Seriously! That’s the way I like to write…excellent stuff…
Kinda reminds me of JKR, though on a much grander, more plot-significant scale. Specifically, points such as Sirius Black first being mentioned in chapter 1 of PS, and Arabella Figg in chapter 2…truly excellent stuff, looking forward to seeing how this ends up!
By the way, a thought occurs, a few pages back you mentioned a few characters getting picked up for the ride or something, is that going to include characters such as Martha, who’s only had a brief cameo so far (to my memory), and an out of order one at that, or even Donna, who hasn’t appeared at all (right?)?
WalksInEternity: Whilst my general opinion is that the rules on different incarnations meeting aren’t reallyset by either Time Lords or writers, I think I’ve got a way that makes sense (though I’m not really familiar with Old Who); in old series Multi-Doctor stories, the Doctors and companions forgot the events later on, and the Doctors experienced them anew later on. The Time Lords enforced this amnesia, to, as The1Russter put it, is “to allow for independent action of each incarnation”. Here, 9/10 forgets the events because somehow they went back in time to a point where the Time Lords were still around without turning into insane prophets, and the Time Lords forced them to forget. In Time Crash, the events took place in 10s time, when the Time Lords weren’t around, so neither 5 nor 10 forgot.
Of course, that theory falls apart if there’s any evidence to suggest characters remembered events from Multi-Doctor stories in the old series (I believe at the beginning of the story a companion or two made a reference to previous Multi-Doctor stories, so perhaps the Time Lords only enforce it on those who were present multiple times, or perhaps it’s genetically only Time Lords who forget, since I’m sure no Time Lords simply sat around watching over time to make people forget meeting themselves.)
Also, to people wondering about when in 9s timeline he went through all that with Dalek Tor, I believe there was a moment when he gasped and realised something, which I don’t believe would have been convincing if it wasn’t genuine, so I reckon he did that before getting the do-whatsit here…
Woo…that’s some pretty deep thinking for two in the morning…do I get a cookie now?
McGann’s the Mann: >> 9. too many to tell! saving everybody in the knick of time but the most heroic for me is the one with the cybermen, i mean he was even singing! <<
Oh yes, one of my favs too: “…if they only ‘ad the ‘eart…” “…the brain…”
Great stuff. Some really awesome pages lately.
The 10th Docs greatest moment is yet to come me thinks! I absolutely Love this story what a great piece Rich. You gotta tell us how you came up with some of the plot points. I know you gotsta keep some stuff to yer self but I think it’d be interestin from one writer to another. Thanks!
Oooooooooooooooh, I get it. Kinda like what they did in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.(Not sure of the spelling.) Very sneaky!
HOLY SNAPPING TURTLES!!!!!!
you had it all planned your devious man you!!!!
i feel so sorry for you Rich, for you can not read this wonderful comic
so sad for you
but you do get the joy of making i so i guess you are good
so i am a bit confused:
is 9’s timeline this?
he went through everything up too the whole dalek tor thing
found the time and space visualizer with Drax, saved 10, then Rose then 5 and that.
but what did he do up to dalek tor? if i am right of course
this is more confusing than back to the future and doctor who combined
so my question is what is 9’s timeline?
I only just noticed that Drax’s “CARDIS” has personalized plates (and North American plates to boot rather than European ones) — TMLRD = Timelord.
Rich, man, that’s just an insane little in-joke… so of course I love it!
It’s an American make of car…A Cadillac is a product of General Motors, after all.
You…
*strangling noises*
…trashcan…
*brain sizzle*
…keys…
“Catchya ya later, Nine and Ten!!”
“Excellent!”
That is AWESOME. Freaking AWESOME. The way it all interweaves. Rich…you are bloody BRILLIANT!
Hi, I’ve been reading this comic for a long time but haven’t yet posted a comment – I wanted to say it has me hooked and it is amazing Rich, Thank you!
A question: When did 9 start these nick-of-time missions? He left Gallifrey in a police box TARDIS, or was that the other him after he’d finished?
Slight grammer/sentence error in the fifth panel, but otherwise…that was an unexpected plot twist!
‘dilly dallying’?? Shilly shalling, shurly? Billy H would be clutching his lapels by now, LOL…Ill get me coat..
Oh typical internet law..ahem…shilly shallying – thank you, thank you, Im here all week, tell your freinds….
Wait a minute… What is the second CARDIS doing in the first 2 frames?
I sense plot development…
OMJ!!!
so second CARDIS!!!!! wow
also pg. 84 9 is working on something with Drax!!!
Rich was planning this all along!!!!
The other “CARDIS”s are the other 9s leaving.
This is just a ploy to make us all go back and re-read this from the beginning! >:D
Actually loconut, if there were 10 #9s, it makes sense that there would be a few extra instances of the vehicle as well to make that happen.
Oh….kay.
This makes sense, only the way a confusing Doctor Who time travel story would.
Marvelous work!
I love 9’s TARDIS…. especially the inside
Very Good. Nine’s personality is really matched.
And PLEASE Stop telling us this is the last page(apart from when it is, of course)
And by the way, why is nine experiencing his time out of order?
So that was not a Stargate, like I first thought it was! I must rewatch The Chase I guess.
wait, werent the insides of their ships sucked out when the reapers appeared?
