The 10th Doctor watches the last of his previous selves leave Gallifrey.
He is alone.
He goes back to the TARDIS.
————
Meanwhile, the artist and family haved moved into their new house, and while he has yet to unpack the box of comic stuff, he has managed to find his muse and is taking “The 10 Doctors” along a few more pages yet. The end is in sight, people. I can just about smell it.

Wow. That’s just…
Wow.
Poignant.
MAY I POSSIBLY HAVE FIRST COMMENT?? whoah…not if someone else gets there first, so ill type fast.
well, This is BRILLIANT. I feel so sorry for ten! The panel of him just standing there is awesomely drawn, and I love the posture of him walking back to the TARDIS.
I can’t believe its almost over… Ah well, it’s been fun.
Oh, nevermind. Sorry, I was about a minute slow. I’m at least third. (sorry for double posting, i wish i could edit it!!)
Awww, that’s so sad! the use of allons-y is great here though, very ironic in a way. Good luck with the move!
You made me cry, Rich. You made me cry.
Return of the Muse.
Coming this spring to RMCS.
And a very depressing page. The one Doctor that can’t stand being alone the most.
noooooooo, Rich, do something to prolong the inevitable, hang the Third Doctor’s words, we need this us Whovians!!!
Awww…*sniffle* that’s the saddest allons-y he’s ever uttered, I think…he’s all by himself…
But! There’s still some plot to be developed, I think…some gaping holes to be filled…some conspicuous ties left loose…
Looking forward to the next page!!!
very well done!Gallifrey is so empty without the doctors.Ten is so downcast in his last panel you can see the huge emptyness in his hearts.
He looks so small and broken. Still crying.
It seems so sad but the Doctor seemed to be happier before the Time War. Sure there were sad moments but nothing like they are now. 10 and 11 just seem to have a hard time finding even a moment of happiness. Like someone else pointed out, he has so many friends and yet seems so lonely.
That is so sad. *snuggles 10*
What will happen to make the Doctors realize they shouldn’t have left Ten alone? He really needs help. Also you need to tell about the “champion of time” comment by Davros.
Poor, poor Ten. I just want to give him a big hug and tell him everything will be okay.
The lonely god walks through, the now empty walls of Valhalla. For soon there will be Ragnarock, when the forces of good, and evil shall clash in Asgard. The mighty Yggdrasil, known to the lonely god as the Eye of Harmony, will soon be seperated from Asgard, and the Rainbow Bridge broken. Leaving our lonely god to travel creation in the relm of midgard, with only the memories of his Valhalla…His home…Gallifrey.
Why didn’t Jack, The Brig, and Sarah Jane go with Ten!? They’re the ones who match up with him best, time-wise!!
I love the way the vast expanse of white space in the middle panel symbolizes the loneliness of the Doctor.
That’s art, that is.
So depressing, but so right.
To Captain Shade: That was wonderful.
To Rich: Fourth symbol… perfect.
*goes to weep over the ending being near*
Are those the symbols of Rassilon, Omega, The Other, and The Doctor up there above that door, perchance?
aww… so sad…
Very good one
Glad i checked again! I will be sad when this is over, but of course there will be new adventures! YAY! Very moody and sad.
Sorry to double post, but I like the symbols above the door in the middle panel. The Time Lord knot, the Omega, and a Question Mark! Brilliant!
Somehow, leaving certain questions unanswered seems so appropriate – anything else would be anticlimactic.
Though I see an epilogue on the horizon…
And new adventures.
*sniff* Very touching. Empty room
And I notice the seal of Rassilon, Omega symbol and a question mark
Great work Rich.
Allons-y Doctor
Very moving. You capture the Doctor’s sorrow quite wonderfully, Rich.
Oh, a little OT: I’ve been watching through some of the Seventh Doctor/Ace eps recently, and reading up on the Cartmel plan that never came to fruition, so I wanted to ask you your opinion: do you think the Doctor is supposed to be a god-like entity?
That is one time he says allons-y that he wish he didn’t as he goes off alone away from the one place he left so long ago and now knows is going to die, I guess you never miss something til its gone.
Oooh, yes, the symbols are brilliant.
Awwww…poor Ten! It’s the end of “Journey’s End” all over again, only that hasn’t happened yet. He’ll have to go through all this all over again then, same concept! Sniffle.
Brilliant, Rich. Absolutely brilliant. Sorry it’s ending, but it’s a really really good ending, so that sorta makes up for it. I guess.
OH, my poor Doctor… Such a lonely little boy and a lonelier man…
Aww poor 10. I can already hear David Tennant saying allsons-y in my head only it has a sadder and tired tone.
Plus, no I don’t want this comic to end! It’s so fun to read!!! Well, like it’s been said “everything has it’s time and everything dies.” I look forward to more of Rich’s works in the future.
oh so sad… *hugs 10*
Well that’s just about the saddest thing in the universe.
Ten really is just the master of being depressing, isn’t he? Course he’s also got some of the funniest, geekiest moments. Best of both, and a little bit mad!
STILL a pretty dick move on every other Doc’s parts to leave him like that. Buuut I suppose most of them could be said to have been a) happily preoccupied with being reunited with their companions and b) not very sympathetic to a Doctor that none of them have been yet. Possibly a bit of “oh he’s the oldest! He’ll be fine on his own.” Little do they know the one with the most experiences is the one who makes the stupidest decisions…
Onward to the finale! Sad to see it end, but I’m anticipating great pages to come.. Keep on truckin, Rich! (And oh man, I feel you with the moving thing. I’m STILL busy carting all my crap from Seattle to Juneau, Alaska. Hope your move is going much much much more smoothly than mine!
)
Excellent page, Rich! You’ve grown over the course of this tale, both as a storyteller and as an artist. (Comparing your figures from the first pages to this one, your art shows a growing maturity. Well done, sir!)
And although you may not LIKE to draw backgrounds, this here page proves that you CAN draw backgrounds with the best of them. Love the question mark.
Like everyone else, I hate to see the roller coaster ride end, but it’s gotta end sometime. Unless you just wanna, y’know, keep throwing things in their way that prevents them from ever reaching an end. You’ve got your whole life to dedicate to this one story, right?
Awww….*sniff*
Poor Ten. I so want to just give him a huge hug and let him know he isn’t really alone.
Great page Rich. That last panel with the Allons-y. So Ten. So Ten indeed.
“Alone, alone, all, all alone,
Alone on a wide wide sea!
And never a saint took pity on
My soul in agony”
Poor poor Doctor! *sniffle* all he’s been through, and now he’s left alone..in the one plac that made him so alone…
Something else will happen before he leaves…right? Will he snap into an energetic dash and run out to see that sky once more before he leaves..?
What a beautiful page Rich. very sad, but beautiful. Poor ten
Well, as long time reader and first time poster let me first say: this is brilliant. I did not know much about DW before this comic. I merely stumbled through the web after having watched two (or so) episodes over here in Germany (this should be an excuse for my bad typing/speaking english).
Thats why I cant say: you capture the Doctors really good (but I do believe the others here commening). I just startet with Doctor 1 recently.
But I can say: Your story and art are superior, you are the master of Doctor Who fanfiction.
I hope you won´t let it end on a funny number, althoug. (216 or so) 250 would be more apropriate, or 300, better 333
No, seriously, i think, when its done its done and we had a wonderfull time, i am looking forward to see some other great stuff (i liked house of paulus, too) and of course YAFGC thrills me daily.
Having said this much, i have to ask: did anyone notice the Dalek hiding in panel 4?
I’ve got to comment on the four Time Lord seals, Rich.
Is the first one supposed to represent any Time Lord in particular, or was it made up?
Then there’s obviously the Seal of Rassilon, which I believe depicts Rassilon’s apparent ability of perpetual regeneration. A constant loop.
Also, as seen in the Fifth Doctor story “Arc of Infinity” Omega already has a seal, it’s on his chestpiece. It’s a more abstract design rather than a Greek Omega symbol. I’ve managed to get an image of this seal front on, which I’ve cropped from a book cover. “http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5451/sealomega.png” which I believe depicts the usage of the Hand of Omega. To me it appears like a figure standing on Gallifrey, manipulating the star (the dot surrounded by the semicircle). Perhaps this symbol would have been more appropriate.
And last but not least, I’m assuming the question mark is the symbol of the Other?
Also, apologies for the double post, but I just remembered. In the flashback to Gallifrey in “The Sound of Drums”, the Timelord shown has THIS seal on his collar, instead of the Seal of Rassilon. http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/gallery/concept_2007/730/47.jpg
This would have been a good choice for a seal on the wall, but hey. Excellent scene anyway, Rich.
Ahhh! Hope you’re not gonna end it with him being depressed. I think I’ll cry!
The solitary figure alone and sad, a quiet pause — perfect setup for something to happen!
Thinking about it, Ten is the only Doctor that we know of that never saw Gallifrey in person. In the fan speculation I’ve seen Nine had some time on Gallifrey during the Time War but we’ve seen Ten from regeneration to — soon — regeneration. Being the Doctor he has the memories but never — outside of this comic has — nor will — Ten actually set foot on Gallifrey. Which makes this all the sadder. I love your backgrounds here Rich.
I’ve just noticed a sort of line going through the middle of the hallway. Does Gallifrey have a motorway going through it’s Citadel?
Awwww!! D: Poor poor 10. Back on the home planet he loved so dearly, but not able to stay. Heart-wrenching, Rich. Doubly heart-wrenching seeing as he’s got two of them.
Thank you for your amazing comic. The best webcomic I’ve ever read by a long shot. This story has been incredible, the art, the dialogue, the little details you put in that give it that extra deliciousness… Gah I’ll miss it when it’s over.
“…managed to find his muse…” that’s one of those animals with the big horns you have in Canada, isn’t it?
Fantastic episode, Rich!
Stuff this “The Other” crap – non-canon, if you ask me.
What I *do* like is the waste bin and the fire extinguisher in the last frame!
that’s just devastating!
“The end is in sight, people. I can just about smell it.”
Nooooooo…!!! :p
Smell it? Not a good sign really. . . I like the symbols on the building.
Wow.
Gallifrey’s really come a long way since it used to be the basement of Television Centre, Wood Lane.
Where did Sarah Jane Smith and Jack go? Shouldn’t they be the ones with Ten?
Simply. Beautiful.
…and CaptainShade, your Viking tribute made just as snoofly – well played.
Poor Ten. I want to hug him.
Wow…
Amazing work.
Poor 10.
This is an incredible parallel to the end of Journey’s End. One moment, a TARDIS full of friends and loved ones, the next moment it’s completely empty. Here we had a whole crowd of friends and loved ones both past and present, plus his previous selves, and on Gallifrey to boot, and now…it’s just Ten. Alone. As always.
Poor Ten. He’s doomed to always be alone in the end.
*sniff*
pooooooor 10
Simple, evocative, beautiful, and heartbreakingly sad. Best use of “Allonz-y” ever. Wow.
echoes :scionofgrace:.
Epic.
Wow. I love that wide open shot.
@Shaka-l-aka: what Dalek?
Poor Ten. ( crys)
I’ll repeat, poor Lonely God
Shaka-l-aka, what Dalek?
Aww…. Poor 10!!! I just wanna hug him! <3 <3 Aww… He should at least have Rose for a little while!
What’s happened to Doctor 2.5?
Or has he been lost in the mash of Doctor conciousness we saw earlier?
