The battle rages on:
A Dalek takes aim at Romana, but Jamie uses his metal beam to smash the gunstick off. Then Ace gives it a mighty kick that knocks it back and off balance.
The Brigadier helps Maxil coordinate the attack.
The Dalekized president attempts to make an Emergency Temporal Shift, but Captain Jack destroys it first.
Turlough get Peri to help him move Nyssa to safety.

Hahaha
Good on ya Jack, we all hate Emergency Temporal Shift
2nd!!
this is all getting too exciting for me :p it’s great to see all the companions working together. I love it that Jack takes out the dalek before it can do the emergency temporal shift :p
Have you ever considered sending this to the bbc? you’d be a fantastic writer for the series!
karen:
I want to finish the story before it gets deliberately shown to anyone at the BBC. They could just as easily shut us down as be impressed. Possibly both.
One of these days I’ll have to stop biting my nails. This isn’t one of them
Ha! Take that ETS! Loving Ace here, although gutted she didn’t get to whack a Dalek with a metal beam
Made it to 5th! Which I’m glad cos 5 was always my favourite.
Nice one Jack, glad to see at least one didn’t get away through the great cop out of ETS. Love the smoking Dalek remains in panel 7! Nice to see Turlough showing some compassion.
Okay, didn’t make it to 5th (but there were only 4 comments when I got here, honest!
Go Turlough, was waiting for him to do something, other then be expression boy in the background
well I hate to see you rush this through ,but i’d hate for the beeb beeb ceeb to shut this down ever more. hurry up and take your time!!!
I wouldn’t be surprised if the official team haven’t seen this – it’s been advertised in various places, including DWF where Moffat and RTD have been. I, therefore, assume it may’ve been posted on DWO too where a few official people will probably lurk
Wonder if peri will mistake Maxil for the Doctor.
Lewis: it’s the difference between plausible deniability and being forced into action. One of the BBC official types surfing across a link can easily say “ooh, nice. Good thing I didn’t see it, wink wink.” But someone handing them a resume with it listed, or sending an email saying “check out this big copyright violation” is much more difficult to ignore. See: Peter David and the closure of scans_daily.
There are loads of fan projects out there though. This is all original – true, the characters aren’t, but Rich has drawn everything himself. If the BBC were so picky, they’d remove every Who video on YouTube which contains their official clips. I think, as long as you acknowledge the BBC and either credit/thank/mention them, it isn’t as bad.
@CG: Word! And word to Jack!
@Rich: Ah, do you really think BBC would give you trouble? I mean, they allow fan sites, fan fiction sites, and YouTube fan videos…
In any case, whoa, dude, they’re routing them!
Cheers,
Os.
Oh I LOVE it! Maxil taking orders from the Brigadier! Ace being ACE! Jack cutting off the escape attempt! Jamie pulling an Ace, if only he had hit the eyestalk on the way down to the gun it WOULD have been an Ace moment! And Peri and Turlough getting Nyssa clear. AWESOME page Rich!
Yeah it got me excited.
The Brigadier ordering Maxil, and Maxil follows without hesitation. Nice.
Maxil: “It was a suggestion, not an order.”
*grins* Maybe now we’ll find out if Dalekized Time Lords can regenerate…you’ve got so many things going on at once, I’m not sure which I would like to see, or which is coming next!!!
Great job, keeping us on our toes! I can’t wait for the next one!!!
Yay for Ace!
Jamie and Jack also.
Yay, more fights!!!!!!!!
But what happened to 4, Leela, the Rani, k9 and the 5 or so Daleks that were with them?
Rich, you certainly keep us on our toes.
You gotta love jack blasting the dalek before it got a chance to shift. If only the daleks just acted instead of telling everyone what they’re about to do first, it might have survived.
Os and Lewis: And the BBC also forced a knitter on ravelry to pull down Dalek knitting patterns. It’s not a matter of what they allow unofficially; it’s what they could be forced to do legally to cover their butts if there was an *official* complaint/announcement. Marvel comics knew about scans_daily for years (all kinds of comics pros posted there), but when Peter Jackson sent an *official* letter telling them about it, they had to get their lawyers involved and now the comm is down, possibly permanently.
Once the Ten Doctors has been finished, we’ll revisit our options as far as printing/publishing goes.
Any more discussion or questions on this topic needs to go to the forum; I’ll be happy to explain our position further there.
And Os: for the second time, remove the damned casino link from your comments. It gets caught by the spamcatcher every time and I have to go unflag it manually. If you don’t comply, I’ll stop doing the extra work entirely.
Oh, and yay, for getting Nyssa out of there! Is that where the other companions are? Is Drax collecting them, like 9 told him to?
hi Rich, are you really breaching any copryights here? it’s not like you’re selling their products or using their products to sell something. Then they’d have to close down any fanfiction site there is on the net!
Maybe it’s better to write a disclaimer to go with the comic. Just to make sure that you do this with the best intentions etc.
This said, I just looked into it and your comic will probably be seen as a derivative work. It looks like it then that the bbc has the copyright to the comic. However, since you’re not gaining any commercial profit from it I think it would fall under the fair use doctrine. I’m not a lawyer or anything I just got this off the internet so I might be (very) wrong
Scary. Turlough is getting less selfish, if only a bit.
I like the contrasting views of Jack and the Eighth Doctor as to what they should do with Dalek Time Lords…
Ha. I bet Jamie and Ace could take over Gallifrey themselves if they wanted to. That would be something I’d love to see.
Er, anyway, brilliant page–love the use of the word routing! And the little boom with the big explosion is great!
Even though Maxil is now being heroic, he’ll still have to be brought up on charges of treason and murder (unless he dies in battle).
emergency temporal fail
Jamie with the club is awesome! Who needs a gun?
I think I need to go and reread this one page after the other, to really get the ‘flow’ of the comic working. Though I’ve always been in the catagory of people who enjoy seeing something with the forced break, since then you get the delicious anticipation. What’s going to happen next? What do I think will happen? What would I like to see? And then when I do get to see it, it’s just awesome.
I really do enjoy the webcomic format, even though I read so few of them. Just like why I like watching a TV show on TV instead of DVD. (Though I’ll buy the seasons too!)
Sorry for the length of the post, I just wanted to share my admiration. I hope that you get to do something awesome with this officially Hilary and Rich, but even if you don’t, it’s been an awesome ride.
Jack’s Boom Gun win – Dalek ETS fail.
Oh Yes!
Another stock up the popcorn action page!
and Jamie saves Ramona with his reliable club
With the Brig in charge of Everyone, Daleks have no chance!
I notice Ace takes specific revenge on the plunger
Nice to see Turlough looking out for Nyssa – hope he helps her actually survive!
(There goes another President of Gallifrey tho … the Doctor will have to talk fast if he doesnt want that job again! …you know, assuming any of the High Council do regenerate enough to be greatful.)
*Grudging respect for Turlough* well, at least that goes PART way towards redeeming himself for what he did to Nyssa in the first place – she wouldn’t have been on Terminus at all if it wasn’t for that meddling ginger Trion!
Re comments about the BBC and YouTube above, I put ‘Time Crash’ on there (and fully credited the BBC) but they complained and made me take it off. So they ARE cracking down on there, it just takes them a while to get round to you!
The Brigadier takes charge. Cool!
I guess even Maxil knows a leader when he sees one.
And good for Peri and Turlough getting Nyssa to safety.
Ah, Daleks. Sure, they talk tough, but they can be beaten by the clever use of a metal beam and a good swift kick!
And good ol’ Peri, staying safely out of the fray in the Cardis. But why is she calling to Turlough in panel 7? Is he lost?
Rich, an error in your drawing. Peri is bending over and there is a decided lack of cleavage being shown.
Hilary: (also, a friend was wondering what happened to s_d, thanks for the heads up!)
Peri and Turlough actually being useful – what a concept!
Just get Nyssa back in the action before the Beeb shuts you down.
Ace, Jamie, and Captain Jack kicking Dalek ass is always entertaining. And of course, Maxil following the Brigadier’s lead shows that Max may have a stick up his poopchute, but he does know a commanding presence when he sees it.
I love watching Jack blow up Daleks. *happy sigh* Now if only he’d been so timely in Stolen Earth.
Anyway, is that…Turlough looking after more than just his own skin? Wow, the situation *must* be really bad!
Well done again, Rich.
And really, folks, better safe than sorry. As a fanvidder, trust me, it’s best that we just leave it well enough alone. That way the BBC can pretend they don’t see it.
I love the perspective of the first panel.
Jamie to the rescue!
What will happen to Nyssa?
“I don’t think so.” Very Jack line, the scene and the delivery totally match him.
The Brig’s in his element, ordering people around!
Amazing work.
Tangerine: Well… once Nyssa is brought into Drax’s TARDIS, maybe the ‘Temporal Grace’ thingy will kick in and mend her injuries, like when Chang Lee and Dr Grace Holloway recovered from a broken neck and a throw off a balcony respectively in the TV Movie.
i do hope when u finish this rich that you do send it off to the bbc
and they make u a writer for the series lol i can dream
a…w…s…o…m…e…!
Jamie saves Romana! yayyyyyyy!
Now what happened to 4??! *is being torn apart from anxiety*
Yaay Jamie
And that is a VERY Jack Harkness line, i agree with Tangerine!
Is it just me or does anyone want to see Jack hitting on Ace?
Jamie was doing that to Daleks long before Ace.So if anybody is copying anyones moves it would be Ace doing a Jamie!
GO JACK!
Ahem. Sorry. I love this one- beating up the Daleks. ^^ Not so superior now, are they?
Go Jamie! Sorry but I just loved him smashing that dalek!
Classic Harkness! Great Work Rich… March has started off just as good as February.
Yayy! It’s Peri! Something for the dads!
GAME ON!
Interesting! Turlough meets Peri here before he meets her for the first time in Planet of Fire (since he appears here between The Five Doctors and Warriors of the Deep). Will there be some selective memory altering before this is all through so he can actually meet her for the first time in Planet of Fire?
Okay, my comments on the page.
Awesome!
Jamie proves he didn’t need a gun. I am so hoping he and Ace hit it off.
The Brigadier didn’t confuse Maxil for 6, so Peri and other companions familiar with 6 shouldn’t either, although the Brigadier’s only time he officially appeared in a story with 6 was the Dimensions in Time special, so YMMV.
Peri & Nyssa, my favorite of the Docs 4-7 companions. And yes, Underline Chris, something for the dads, as well as the unattached 20-50 somethings that swing that way.
Personally, I quite like panel 1 myself.
Turlough is thinking about others, is this a new regeneration for him as well? Or perhaps the Black Guardian has plans for Nyssa.
Heheh… Do I have to remind everyone that Turlough was the one who dove into the ocean to rescue Peri in “The Planet of Fire”? I mean, most people do forget he was IN those shots, but he did do this thing. It’s not beyond him. Also, when pushed, he made the right decision at the end of “Enlightenment”.
I remember that episode. Strickson had a shorts tan.
Who needs a staser when Jamie has a piece of wood.
Great work as always Rich!
I like Turlough because of his few heroics. I like that he is sometimes the unlikely hero (although I’ll admit there are times I want to punch him in the face).
lol, I like how they call the “Doctor Dalek” “Tor”
Fantastic Comic!
Wow! This gets more exiting every day!
(i know the comment i’m refering to is way up there now, but..)
IHatePears: Hmm, Jack hitting on Ace?? I think that’s pushing the boundries there – i don’t know much about Old Who, but isn’t Ace meant to be something like 15? eww..that would be kinda weird – perhaps a bit too pervy, even for Jack! XD
interesting thing to think about though..
I can’t wait to read the next part!
Rich I thought that was his best job of acting…holding a dripping wet bikinied Peri while wearing swim trunks and not having a embarassing bulge!Peter Davidson once commented that her lack of attire made it hard for him to say his last lines and look up at the same time!
Koki: Ace started at 16, and tended to get hot and bothered and flirt with some of the strapping guys where the TARDIS landed. Unfortunately, said characters usually bought it later on. Jack shouldn’t have that problem, though.
Jamie can beat up a Dalek with a stick… Yeah, he’s just that awesome.
And obviously Jack has the biggest gun. *cough*
Didn’t Ace lose her virginity to Glitz?
God, I think I like being away for small periods of time, stuff is happening so fast and it’s getting intense! I guess I’m kinda worried about the Time Dalek, I mean they’re victims here, and Gallifrey is out of president now.
I think because of the speed I’ll probably have to stick around since it’s almost the end, and I want to be there. You know this is gonna be the first webcomic I finish; I’ve read several Finished comics, follow many ongoing ones and followed one since it’s begining (before even, when it was only a bunch of sketches in a DeviantArt gallery), but this is gonna be the first one I picked up ongoing and read until it ended; I should probably do something to celebrate like trying to make a fanart or something. Also, We’re almost at 200! Awesome
Emergency temporal sh- More than one word starts with sh…
Sorry being obnoxious.
Im confused… are we seeing the start of the time war, the time war itself or does this little speel got sorted and not contribute to it at all.
Luv your comics, as ever. Proably everyone whose read this has thought how cool it would be for this to become a book/tv program/given to the BBC/whatever, but it’s your comics so naturally it’s you who chooses.
Still can’t tell how it will end out you are a fantastic story writer keep going.
Can I point that the BBC also have to worry about trademark violations as well as copyright with fan sites. The show’s name as well as terms such as Dalek and Tardis are all trademarks which are slightly more complicated that just copyright. These have to be defended or else they lose their protected status and the BBC lose any revenue they get licencing these properties out, so we can buy toys, mugs or whatever.
They tend to be pretty good with the fans and give them a lot of leeway, so fanfiction and fansites don’t usually have problems. The problems start when people start making money off their sites and hence the show, the knitted figures were being sold on e-bay which is why the BBC stepped on that site even if the person who had put the patterns on wasn’t actually the one sellling them. It’s a question of the BBC not liking other people to make money out of their property, which I think is understandable.
@ Hillary — Whoops, sorry for old link. It has been removed and replaced. Is the new one OK? I swear to Rassilon i don’t mean to spam; i really do write for that other site…
Yours,
Os.
Typical Daleks, always saying what they do next, not a good tactic to give away the next move. Lucky that Jack picked up on it.
OK, yes, I’ll say it: lovin’ Peri’s booty call. Rich, does Hilary ever give you a discomfiting glance after she reads a page with Peri on it?
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! ;]
Might’ve been a good opportunity to use Jamie’s battlecry here. Still a sweet page regardless
Os: that’s fine now; thank you. It was the ‘casino’ section that was giving askimet heart attacks.
Rich, does Hilary ever give you a discomfiting glance after she reads a page with Peri on it?
Hahaha! That’s sweet of you to be worried, but no. If I don’t understand him a little after ten years, then we have worse problems than how he likes to draw over-boobed scream queens.
See. I said giving Jamie a gun would only slow him down
I’m with you on the Turlough heroism thing, Rich! one of the joys of Turlough was he actually had some layers. At the very least, Turlough doesn’t strive to be a jerk. Rescuing Nyssa isn’t really much more dangerous than any other choice available, and I’m thinking he may feel he owes Nyssa a favor since she never got an apology for the whole Black Guardian thing (which the team finds out in the episode after her departure)
My, my, Peri has a lovely shaped bum in that penultimate panel!! I think I’m going to need a cold shower now….
Just been and had a cold shower and….oh no.. I can’t stop looking at Peri’s lovely bum….
You draw lovely Peri to perfection, you really do.
I noticed Nyssa seems to be taking a lot of damage..do you have something against her?XD
Re: Sarah’s post
Unfortunately, with regards to Nyssa, most Who fiction, including the Virgin & BBC “Past Doctor” novels seem to employ a “Test to Destruction”, or more informally, “How much suffering can we inflict on Nyssa…?” mode,
During said stories, she usually has something rather nasty done to her during the story in question, such as being turned into a Vampire (Goth Opera), mummified alive (The Sands of Time), shot (Empire Of Death), having “wierd matter” forcibly surgically implanted in her, minus any painkillers (Zeta Major), or possessed by a extra-dimensional nasty (Fear Of The Dark)…
Tegan by contrast, generally goes through said adventures without a scratch…
Rich is merely following in these author’s footsteps…
I even have a gag signature parodying this, which is a modification of the warning given in the original Captain Scarlet show from the 1960’s…
Remember “Nyssa of Traken is Indestructible… YOU are not… Do not attempt to copy her actions…!”
Actually that sounds more like those old safety commercials with Astar the robot..”I can put my arm back on,you can’t,so play safe!”
RE: Grim’s post
Rich is a bully, like all those writers. Oh, my best friend and I unofficially adopted Sarah Sutton, and by default this includes her characters too. This whole thing can get interesting.
