Thursday 11 – Remembrance

With apologies to everyone expecting another page of “The 10 Doctors”, this is something I’ve got to do. Welcome to Thursday 11: Remembrance.

A bit of backstory.  Every year since 1997, on the Thursday before Halloween, I have run a special one-off RPG evening with a horror theme. In the spirit of my favorite 70’s & 80’s B-movies, most of them were sequels and continued a story. On the other hand, some of them were totally new stories.

Once we moved away from our regular Thursday night gaming group in Montreal, it has become more difficult to continue to run them. This year represents the second time I have missed a session.  So, like the first time, I am going to attempt to fill the void in the OC part of my brain with a comic to represent the missing episode.  While this isn’t actually a story, it does go back over the highlights of all the previous stories, a trip down the Thursday series memory lane.  There will be only 3 updates, including this one, tomorrow (The Thursday before Halloween) and Halloween night itself.  Once the trilogy is up, I shall endeavor to continue with “The 10 Doctors”.

Apologies to anyone who has no idea what’s going on in this thing. I suspect you’ll have had to be there.

Hunh. On seeing the title of this post, I at first expected to see [Edited by Admin: Enough with the casting spoilers, already!!]. Well, this sounds cool too. Happy Halloween.

    D’oh! Yes, sorry.

By the way, out of curiosity, what system is this RPG based on? Is it a D&D sort of affair, with friends around a table? A “Host Your Own Murder” party? LARP?

I used the Eden Studio system from the “All Flesh Must Be Eaten” tabletop RPG. I’d invite friends over with a special invitation featuring the poster-of-the-year (as in the above image, you can see all the ones I made), though I eventually dropped the habit of giving out the invites, I still enjoyed making the posters. I’d carve a pumpkin with the Thursday logo carved into one side and something creepy carved into the other side.
That was a Wednesday night ritual where I’d sit in front of a series of classic horror films while carving my pumpkin with a series of knives ranging from a huge cleaver to an exacto blade.
We contremplated doing a ‘Host Your Own Murder”/LARP style one once, but it never got off the ground. That ended up being the first year I missed (Thursday 9), mainly because we were moving house on Halloween night and we were a little busy with packing and stuff.

It’s terrible when “responsibilities” and “obligations” get in the way of celebrating Halloween. And therein lies a metaphor for life, does it not?

Kewl update…But where are all the weeping angels? LOL. Lovely homage. We all need more friendships like yours.

The “Out of the Woods” one made me giggle. It’s actually quite similar to the posters from my school’s performance of Into the Woods last year.
…I will not start babbling on about how cool our Wolf was.
