The 10 Doctors – Page 125

The 6th Doctor talks the 4th Doctor through repairs to the Dalek ship.  The Supreme Dalek, however, decides that once they’re mobile again that they will shoot straight back up into the battle in space rather than bring  their hated enemy inside to safety.

Meanwhile the 4th Doctor gets ‘buzzed’ by a passing 1-man fighter.

    Yeeehaaaa!

  2. MarrowMan

    Nice Entry! Good work rich!

  3. KatKlingon

Wonderful! Oh, poor Four is just getting NO respect from his two cloest next selves! (I know Five is probably not aware of what he just did, but that doesn’t mean he won’t get a good laugh about it if he ever finds out.)

  4. Percy

Lovely, a new TWO pages! You made my horribly early getting up day! (if that made sense) I like the dynamic between Six and Maxil and Four is fantabulous, as usual. Thank you so much!

  5. wulfae

I like Four’s profile shot in panel three, especially how his hair is flying behind him. Even the curls cannot withstand the plummet to earth!

  6. Heather

I’m on tenterhooks waiting to see how 4 gets out of this one. A daring rescue by 5, perhaps? Or perhaps Nyssa and Mel will come get him. Or maybe 6 will find a way to convince the Daleks to let 4 back on board.

  7. WhoRU?

Way to go Rich. Great interact between Doc 6 and Maxil. Doc 5 must be close by. . .

  8. Arianna_Badwolf

    yay new ness in comixness!

  9. Richie

Nice one Rich! Nice dialog between Six and Four! Love the way you’ve done Four’s hair! And was that Five passing by? I know one thing… i can’t wait to tune in for the next installment! :D

  10. carol

I agree that Four’s hair looks cool but was that Five zooming by or the Master?

  11. Ronnie

LOVING this comic, despite my utter lack of old series knowledge! Keep up the good work, Rich! :D

  12. Captain Shade

Yup…That WAS Five. Means Lil’ Miss Nys, and Rebel Yell Mel ain’t far behind. Guess they’ll save Four after all. Though you have to wonder if Four recognizes Six’s voice (they did chat at the beginning of this story). Thanks for two updates so close together. You’re the grooviest, Rich. Long live the Gorpo!

  13. Keeper of Torah

Awesome, great stuff. Keep it coming!

  14. Flexico

I love the face in the last panel! =DDD At first it looked like a rocket aimed right at his head and he’s all “Ho snap!” but then I realized it was a ship farther away. Still hilarious.

  15. Zidel333

Two updates!! *another happy dance in honor of Rich*

  16. You_Will_Obay_Me

    Wow 2 new pages! Thanks!

  17. Mitchell Craig

Two new pages! Boo (and indeed) yah!

  18. Dr Nick

    Hi Everybody!

I have a feeling that figther is actually the doctors!

But which one? FIVE! but why does he buzz the former self? we need to ask someone! GHOSTBUSTERS!

As i said in my death scene in the simpo movie,

    Bye Verybody

  19. Mitchell Craig

Just had a revelation whilst showering: suppose Nyssa scanned 5’s ship after whacking the Master. If her vessel contains a transmat system (for medical emergencies and such), she could program it to beam the Doctor, or anyone with his genetic signature in the vicinity, on board her ship. Activating the transmat, she manages to beam up 4, 5, and 6.
    Hilarity, in theory, ensues.
Shameless plug time, kiddies! Go to the forum and check out my picks for the best and worst DW companions!
    Quoth the prophet, “Excelsior!”

  20. The Voyager

    Hurra! Props to Rich!

  21. Jay

Hmmm yes now then where to next!

  22. Ursula

I know this is totally random, but I get a real feeling of deja-vu looking at the panels with four hanging from the ship with his hair blowing around. Why is that so familiar? I haven’t seen Logopolis in a while, but is there a scene like that?

  23. Lisa

YAY NEW PAGES!! I happened to come here on a whim and, woo! Surprise!

  24. Countess

Hurray, another exciting page! Ursula, it just so happens that I watched Logopolis about a week ago. The Doctor does dangle by his fingertips from the Pharos project thingy, but here Rich has drawn his hair really streaming in the upper atmosphere. Those curls really stretch out.

  25. Telepwen

I hope there’s at least some air out there. Respiratory bypass or no, he can only last so long.

    Hooray for new pages!

  26. Antonius

Love that expression in last panel. Great work Rich

  27. Hark

    OMG

is that 5 or Mel in that spaceship?

  28. Ch1ps

    Wow…

My laptop’s been confiscated for a week or more…TWO NEW PAGES!!! (heh, i’m sneaking on to someone else’s comp today)

Hooray! The sixth doc gets a spot in the limelight! I like him now :-)

    Heh, the 4th doc’s funny too :-D

Mel/5th doc or whoever’s in that spaceship: Zoom, zoom, zoom!

  29. Ch1ps

    omg…the rocket does look like it’s aimed at the 4th doc’s head…

  30. Whatsit

Zoom a little zoom in a rocket ship, home we go, on a trip!
Comin’ back to Earth at a clip. We’re gonna zoom-zoom, rocket!
    *dances*
Sorry, I had to do that. :)

  31. Rich

    the other dave: Whoooooot!

    MarrowMan: Thanks!

    KatKlingon: *bows* Thank YOU!

Percy: It took a few rereads, but I got it. You had to get up extra early today and thanks to this update, it wasn’t the WORST day of your life? I’m flattered!

wulfae: Heheh…it’s a tough thing to draw, actually.

Heather: The possibilities are many, aren’t they?

    WhoRU?: Thanks!

    Arianna Badwolf: Yesness!

    Richie: Weee shall seeeeee!

carol: Probably not the Master since he’s been blown up. And his ship had long wings.

Ronnie: Yay! That’s a huge compliment! Thanks!

    Epdta Hansac: *bows* Thanks!

Keeper of Torah: Thanks! Will do!

Flexico: Yeah, hehehehe… It kinda does look like a little rocket.. crap.

    Zidel333: *grins*

    You_Will_Obay_Me: (Wi_Obay_No_One. We_Are_The_Superior_Beings!) You’re welcome!

Mitchell Craig: Thank (and indeed) you!

    DrNick: …Ghostbusters?

Mitchell Craig: Uh… yeah, could be.

    The Voyager: Yay! *gathers props*

    Jay: That way.

Ursula: Yeah, his hair gets blown around a lot in “The Power of Kroll” that’s what I was thinking of when I drew it, anyway.

    Lisa: Yay! Thanks!

Countess: His hair gets pretty long when you uncurl it!

Telepwen: Yeah, there’s air out there. It’s thin and cold, but there’s air.

    Antonius: Thanks!

Hark: Mel? Mel’s on the shuttle with Nyssa….

Ch1ps: He deserved some after what happened to him in the series.

Whatsit: Heheh, ooookay. What song is that?

  32. Teenage Mage

Two pages at once, brilliant. Made my day May I just say, you capture the characters better than any of the ‘official’ books I’ve read. Granted, that’s only six at the moment, but still. You should get paid for this. So now four of the Doctors are plummeting towards certain doom in the throes of unreliable spacecraft…..

Can I ask (on a slightly different topic) at what point in Jack’s timeline this is taking place for him? Because, if I’ve got it right, he knows Nine, but Nine hasn’t met him yet, and Ten knows him, but Jack hasn’t met Ten- presumably, since this is taking place before Utopia, right? (Speaking of which, where is Ten at the moment? He and Seven seem to have disappeared…)

  33. Kimberly

Yea! 2 new pages! (I’m doing the happy dance…step, step, kick and… one and two and three…) Loved the fly-by – nice way to tie things together!

  34. Sean

    Another great page!

Just what is Six speaking into? A microphone? I can’t see anything with him.

And I love how comically you draw Four when he’s startled. You should do it some more!

  35. Jim

    Yay 4 He rules

  36. KAAALAGKHHH

I have been reading since page 1, i am the silent wacher,
cool comic, on dalek links you got 5 daleks and they would give you 6 if they could, i love the style of your drawing and the way you keep tabs on all of the plotlines and not go insane (i know i would)!
    thankyou lots and lots!

  37. JustAWanderer

Teenage Mage, there’s a link up above to Bluetardis’ 10 Doctors character index. It’s only updated through page 107, but it may be helpful in keeping track of everyone.
Anyway, at last report, 10 was on Gallifrey, being held at gunpoint by the Valeyard. 7 was on Davros’ ship, causing trouble. Unless I’m missing something.
(Because I’m a clumsy typist when my hands are cold, “10 Doctors” accidentally came out as “190 Doctors” … can you imagine?)

  38. Mreen

“Meanwhile the 4th Doctor gets ‘buzzed’ by a passing 1-man fighter.”

A detailed look at the plans showed that the Daleks had only prepared for a large scale assault, he knew they must have left themselves open for attacks by small 1-man fighters!

-Duck Dodgers in the 24th and 1/2 century

    Love the new pages! :D

*gets out flow chart on who is tricking whom about who-not-a-who is tricking who.*

  39. Teenage Mage

Ah, thank you, JustAWanderer. I thought he was with the Valeyard, but his point of view just seemed to drop off, so I thought I was missing something…same with Seven.

  40. Dr Nick

Yes, ghostbusters will save our problems. wait, i said the same line i said before i died in the movie? im a ghost! WE need Ghostbusters!

  47. Joe England

“I have done this before, you know!”
“Yes, well, so have I! …Now!”
    “And so have I, apparently.”
    “I suppose I have, too, haven’t I?”
“Leela? I have the sudden sense that I once repaired a Dalek spaceship in mid flight!”
“Oy, Rose, did you know I once repaired a Dalek spaceship in mid flight?”
“Hmm… I must be repairing that Dalek spaceship right about now…”
“Curses! I repaired the Dalek spaceship when I was in my fourth body! That must mean the first Doctor survived my trap! Unless… wait… if he dies, will I not have repaired the… but if… how is it I still exist, anyway??”

  48. Captain Shade

Joe, you’re funny…LOL. Though, it just accured to me. Five, and Nyssa are in the same story line, now. So I think it’s interesting that that particular story line was referanced, just as Four was calling for the Keeper.

  50. Other Chris

I love the expression in the last panel. Smeggin bril.

I’ve been wanting to say this for a long time: Your artwork is amazing! It’s like a cross between Jeff Smith and Will Eisner, with sotrytelling to match! Keep up the great work!

  51. Turnip

My brain is a strange, strange little world. So, I’ve listened to both Hot Stuff and Stayin’ Alive today, okay? Of course they’re both now stuck in my head. And somehow, the combination of the Doctor’s jacket collar sticking up like that and his curly hair has led to my brain going off on a Disco Doctor tangent.
Somehow I don’t think platform shoes would work with his lifestyle, though.

  52. Captain Chaotica

Well, Four _is_ from the right (real-life) time period for that…
Although if you really want down and fun-kay! fashions on Doctor Who, Jo’s _metallic silver_ platform boots are where it’s at. Heh.

    …Notorious

  53. Dr. Bunsen

Joe England – we try not to think about things like that! :)

  54. Mitchell Craig

Joe England – you forgot 5: “Oh, yes – I flew by myself repairing a Dalek spaceship once. Not at all unlike walking on one’s own grave.”
In DW related TV stuff, I’ve been watching The Catherine Tate Show and the Little Britain Marathon on BBC America. Ms. Tate we all know via Donna (and BBC America will start airing DW Series 4 November 8); she’s way kewl. As for Little Britain, it’s not all that funny, but it’s worth a look – or rather a listen – for Tom Baker narrating. He’s got that late-period Shatner vibe going.
Captain Chaotica – speaking of funky fashions, you should check out the DW episodes with Sarah Jane. Or better yet, go to sarahjanesmith.cosmic-archer.com and check out the Sarah Jane Smith Wardrobe Appreciation Society.
You can also access it via Outpost Galifrey – just in case.

  55. Captain Chaotica

Actually, I’ve seen all of them..and I _was_ going to mention in my previous comment (but felt it would come across as TOO obsessively nitpicky geekish–as if that’s a bad thing), that in fact, Sarah Jane “stole” _those exact same silver boots_!
Seriously! What was it…Monster of Peladon? First time I saw Sarah in a full shot, I was like, “Huh, _those_ are familiar…” Apparently those boots are one of the items Miss Grant left behind in the TARDIS wardrobe room. Heh.

(Also Sarah’s foofy-sleeved shirt with a denim jumper over it from “Planet of Evil” is _terminally_ Jo-ish in general…)

But yeah. I haven’t yet seen the Sarah Jane Adventures (but she wouldn’t be wearing funky ’70s stuff in that _anyway_…as far as I know…) but I have seen ALL of One, Two, Three, Four, and now also Five’s stuff (and the very beginning of Six’s) so I know what you mean about SJ’s wardrobe. The infamous pink-striped “Andy Pandy” thing isn’t even the half of it! Heh…

    …Notorious

  56. Joe England

Mitchell – No, I didn’t. Count ‘em. But I do like your line better.

  57. teri dragon

ahahahahahahahahaha XD poor four….Thankies for the new pages!!

  58. PhantomDrummer

Dear God, I SO missed this! Welcome back, Rich!

  59. Mitchell Craig

Joe England – You did mention 5, but I’m glad you enjoyed my little comment.
Captain Chaotica – yes, SJ’s wardrobe these days is more befitting a woman of a certain age, yet still being appropriate for chasing (and being chased by) aliens :) .

  60. Mitchell Craig

Joe England – My apologies; I’m also glad you enjoyed my little bon mot.
Captain Chaotica – Sarah did seem to favor the stuff Jo (more than likely) left behind in the TARDIS. In her new show, she tends to dress more appropriately for a woman of a certain age, but with style.

  61. Telepwen

See, I just sit here and imagine things like how Elisabeth Sladen felt regarding her new costumes that are “appropriate for a woman of her age”.

When she signed on, she must have stared at it and immediately felt old. Same show, different age group of costuming.

  62. Turnip

I am so jealous of Sarah Jane’s totally awesome red boots that she wore in Genesis of the Daleks. How in the name of Rassilon’s silver sharpie she managed to climb scaffolding in them is anyone’s guess, though…especially with a knee length skirt.

  63. Captain Chaotica

Heh. Of course, the main reason why I even noticed the things she wore that were similar (or WERE the same actual item) to Jo’s stuff is because I go around recognising stuff from earlier episodes in general. Why? (shrug) I dunno. It’s fun. (And the silver boots are hard to miss, anyway.)

Genesis of the Daleks is one of my favourite serials EVER, by the way–dark as all get-out, but oh so _good_–and the cliffhanger with her falling off the scaffolding is one of the most flat out direct, not messing about, REAL-scary cliffhangers the show has ever had. Forget rubber-suited monsters that look obviously fake–EVERYBODY’S scared of _falling_!

    …Notorious

  64. Percy

Something just occured to me…what happened to Four’s scarf? Wasn’t he all tied up in it or did it end up falling off the ship? Because now I’m confused…

  65. Vermillion

Well, if it fell off the ship… Maybe that’s why he had to start wearing that burgundy one?

  66. KatKlingon

Hmm, Rich what happened to the scarf? Still snagged on the ship and Four crawled out of it, got away from Four and is ‘hanging’ nearby or is it lost? You know Whovians notice such things. We patiently await your revealing page on that issue :D

  67. Rich

He just untangled himself from it and left it snagged up in the broken hull of the ship. :D

  68. Telepwen

I hope the edges aren’t jagged enough to unravel the scarf.

  69. KatKlingon

    Ahhh, thank you Rich

  70. she_who_filks

Yes, it’s as important to know where your scarf is, as it is to know where your towel is. Hoopy frood, everybody!

  71. jettime

Love 4’s expression in the last pannel!

  72. Turnip

I bet the scarf’ll survive. After all, it’s been through some hard times and made it okay. It’s Time Lord knitting magic!

…As long as it doesn’t turn twisted and evil from its abandonment. That’s it. That’s totally going to be the Series five villain: Return of the Scarf! Only it will have grown to be like, a hundred feet long or something.

  73. nicolajo666

good, more pages. like 4 in the last panel :D

  74. Telepwen

Return of the Scarf! It has special strangling powers. And tripping-into-abyss powers. And, what with such a skinny Doctor, it can wrap extra circles around him and control him.

  75. Connor

Great pages rich, loving the return of four. I’ve never seen any classic doctor who so it must be all down to your story and artwork and not any nostar, nostarla, nost- that word, effect of the fourth doctor.

By the way, as i have never seen any classic doctor who (well i am only 15, so it was a bit before my time), I have been, looking around for some classic dvds. At my local supermarket they currently have; the time meddler, the brain of moribus and the five doctors. which of these do people think would be the best introduction to classic doctor who. I am aware I could get classic dvds from the web but I would rather get one from my supermarket first.

  76. JustAWanderer

Go with the Five Doctors. That will give you a quick glance at Troughton, Pertwee, Baker*, and Davison. Unfortunately, William Hartnell had already died by then, so you’ll get to see someone else play him. (Richard Hurndall, whom I believe is also dead.)
*=Tom chose not to participate, so they worked him in using some footage from the unmade story “Shada.”

  77. KatKlingon

My information is Hurndall died a year after making The Five Doctors and six months after it first aired. To see the before and just after Tom Baker Doctors in one sitting The Five Doctors is a good choice. This comic is an excellent overview of all of them as well.

  78. ehjookaider

Have you all seen the news that the November 14th Children In Need charity special is to be called “The 7 Doctors” and will feature all 7 surviving Doctors? I can’t wait!

  79. Connor

thanks guys, i’ll go with the five doctors then :)

  80. Chris

ehjookaider: That was just a rumour. Before that the rumours were a Doctor Who/Torchwood crossover but then they revealed that it would be a two-minute clip from the start of “The Next Doctor” (Christmas Special).

  81. dragon64

Yes! Ten VS The EvilScarf! Mwa ha ha ha ha! >:3
    And then there was 11.

Chaotica, Chaotica… It doesn’t matter how fake they look, those terrible special effects kill you know! Dead! The screen will do some psychedelic flashy stuff, and kaput! (Well, _I’m_ scared of the rubbersuits. And they’re so terribly endearing at the same time.)

  82. Captain Chaotica

Yeah, I know. Actually I’m rather a fan of chintzy oldschool science fiction stuff. After watching all of MST3K (yes, _all_ of it) I’ve discovered that my favourite of the movies they make fun of are the black and white science fiction ones from the 1950’s…and that some of them weren’t really that bad and I wouldn’t mind seeing them the normal way.

Still, that said, I do rather like the rare occasions when they have a cliffhanger that even cynical special-effects-jaded modern people can really _believe_ in the scariness of. Falling, being shot, drowning, fire, crashing a vehicle…

Anyway. Connor…hmm. You’ve already chosen to go with “The Five Doctors”…which is good but the thing _is_, that a lot of WHY it is good is because it’s made out of almost 100% cute little injokes for the fans–fans who _already know the previous Doctors_. Somebody who has never seen One, Two, or Three in action isn’t going to be giggling over reversing the polarity, or Two and the Brig hanging out together again, or “Kindly refrain from addressing me as ‘Doc’”! or…

Oh, sure, you can _read_ about those things on a website and be mentally caught up. But in terms of “EEE!!” it’s not the same as actually having “been” there. It is Not The Same.
The actual _plot_ of The Five Doctors is…almost entirely nonexistent and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. It really is pretty much there to be a place to string all the adorable cameos and famous lines on. You have been warned. :P

Still, I wish they had some better/other choices at your local DVD store or whatever it is. “The Brain of Morbius” I’ve…never been terribly fond of, to tell the truth–if I was gonna reccommend classic Four stuff I’d go with “Pyramids of Mars” or “City of Death” (or Genesis of the Daleks…only AFTER you’ve seen a bunch of the earlier Dalek episodes)
“The Time Meddler” is the earliest one on that list and so since I’m such a stickler for that kind of thing, I guess it’s the one I’d reccommend. It’s with the very first Doctor and is…really quite good. :) I liked it, anyway. I don’t know if I’d say it’s THE one of his stuff I’d reccommend to a total newbie (that’d probably be…”The Dalek Invasion of Earth”) but it’s got a neat science fictiony plot about trying to change history, and some humour. (shrug)

But, you’ve already made your decision, so hey.

    …Notorious

  83. Telepwen

I’m not the only one that wanted to see the old sci-fi movies they mocked in their natural state? Some of them were awesome!

As for the Five Doctors, I have to agree with Chaotica. I wouldn’t watch the Made For Fan-Squee show first. It might not be the best of all serials they ever made, but I think that Spearhead From Space is actually a good introduction.

Or one of the other freshly regenerated Doctor stories. ‘Cause that way, you get the Doctor trying to figure out who he is and there’s lots of lovely introductory stuff as they Doctor tries to figure out his surroundings and the surroundings try (usually futilely) to figure out the Doctor.

  84. Connor

i haven’t already made my desicion as i haven’t been out to the store yet, im still open to suggestions to the better of the three, hey if i may be getting all three if i can convince myself they are worth £18

  85. ericinwisconsin

If you’re going to go with a Doctor’s first story, skip “Robot” (Tom Baker’s first). It’s a particularly weak story and the writers hadn’t gotten down his personality yet. That’s because the story was written for Richard Hearne, who was GOING to be the fourth Doctor. He was going to play him as an old man. That’s why Harry Sullivan was in the first season, because he was going to be the old man’s “leg man” and do all of the physical, strenuous stuff.

From what I’ve been told, Richard Hearne (who became famous playing a children’s show character called “Mr. Pastry”) was a bit of a dotard at this point in his life. He kept telling the producers of Doctor Who that “Mr. Pastry wouldn’t do that”, and they pretty much dropped him in favor of Baker. So that first story doesn’t really have much chance for Baker to show off his talents.

If you go with a Tom Baker story, go with his next one, “Ark In Space”, which was excellent. It set the tone, really, for the first part of Baker’s long run in the role. “Robot” was more of a Jon Pertwee story and one which, IMHO, Pertwee would have refused to do as it was broadcast.

If you want to go with a Doctor’s first story, choose the fifth Doctor story “Castrovalva”. It has a few in-jokes at the beginning, but quickly evolves into an excellent story about mathematics, recusion, and M.C. Escher prints.

  86. jim

this is good… Rocket aimed at 4’s head… then if he regenerated 5 wouldn’t be in the ship… he’d be outside where 4 is

  87. Dragon-64

“The Seeds of Death” (Death, not Doom, Death) was my first old episode, and I’ve been a steadfast Troughton fan ever since. I have a deep passion for such things. I knew when I saw those black-and-white low-buget effects, I had found my favourite show. *snif* But “The Mind Robber”, though a bit more unconventional has to be my favourite old story.
I wish I could be more help, but of the choices, I’ve only seen “The Five Doctors”. However, it is a must-see, and if you like “The Ten Doctors” you’ll like “The Five Doctors” (it has a very “Ten Doctors” feel ;) ). I have it and it just gets better each time. Especially since I’ve further immerced myself into the Doctor Who mythos. I liked the commentary too :D . Davison and his buttons… XD

My favorite Troughton DVD is Tomb of the Cybermen, his oldest intact story available. As Dragon-64 mentions, some of the effects are a little low budget, but this doesn’t disappoint. 8.2/10 on IMBD! And I love the “No one else in the universe” speech PT gives to Victoria when she’s missing her father. Very touching.

    WARNING ! ! ! ! UN-PROVEN SPOILERS ! ! ! !
The upcoming Xmas special is (apparently) going to sort of a ‘Two Doctors’- ish episode.

  90. Percy

That would be really cool! I wonder which Doctor Ten would be running around with…
My very first Doctor Who story ever was Ribos Operation…good stuff, that. Parts can be a little dull, but I love the Doctor-Romana banter. Quite recently I’ve been watching earlier Tom Baker stuff, like Ark in Space (good), Pyramids of Mars (really good, especially once he’s with Suteck), Brain of Morbius (really good), and Horror of Fang Rock (good, but very dark–as in the screen in annoyingly black at times).
So really, for Connor, I’d recommend Brain of Morbius because I think the story is just better than The Five Doctors, plus the latter might be a bit overwhelming a start.

  91. Mitchell Craig

Connor – you can always check your local library to see if they carry Classic Doctor Who. I’ve done that, revisiting some old favorites and discovering new ones as well. A few suggestions follow:
“Inferno” – Pertwee investigates odd happenings at an experimental drillsite and gets tossed into a parallel universe gone pear-shaped.
“The Time Warrior” – Pertwee again, as a Sontaran (first appearance) is stranded in not-so-jolly-olde-England and snatches scientists from the 20th Century to help repair his spaceship. Also notable for introducing the incomparable Sarah Jane Smith.
“Genesis of the Daleks” – I enjoyed “Robot” myself, but here’s classic Baker as the Doctor, Sarah, and good ol’ Harry Sullivan are sent to Skaro by the Time Lords to alter the evolution of the Daleks, one way or another.
“City of Death” – Baker with Romana II in Paris and assorted time experiments going on.
“Arc of Infinity” – I’d like to find “The Visitation” or “Earthshock” as these are outstanding episodes from the Davison years, but this one cooks, largely because you get a heaping helping of Nyssatastica (she packs a mean staser in this one). Plus, Colin Baker in a supporting role. Speaking of which….
“Mark of the Rani” – C. Baker’s Doctor is notably less grating here than in his other episodes that I’ve seen. Even Peri is tolerable (no mean feat there).
“Survival” – the only McCoy adventure I’ve seen to date. It’s also the last Classic Doctor adventure broadcast. Oh, it also has Ace and Ainley’s best performance as the Master.

  92. Casey

Actually, the christmas special this year won’t have ten meeting any of his past selves. Instead he’s going to meet an unrelated character who just also happens to call himself the doctor (played by actor David Morrissey). Read more info here: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/2009_Specials_%28Doctor_Who%29

  93. KatKlingon

    Conner,
I had to look up The time Meddler to be sure which Doctor’s era it is from, it is a First Doctor (Hartnell) serial. Brain of Moribus is a Tom Baker story and the Five doctors we’ve discussed. Perhaps that will help you.

    Rich,
I forgot to say I LOVE the last panel, it captures the moment perfectly.

  94. Dr Nick

    Hi Everybody!

I am officially joining Ghostbusters to sort out the problems i have mention, eg, if i said my last words in my first post, and this is my third, we need ghostbusters! this is the end to Dr Nick, i am now

Ta-da. now i just need to get over the word minimum. what is the minimum anyway? xD

    Bye… oops paradox.

My favorite Troughton DVD is The Mind Robber. It is a great story and I love the story behind Jamie’s face change. Frazer Hines(Jamie) had gotten chickenpox from one of his nephews, who was staying with him at the time, and they had to get someone to replace him until he got better. I do have The Tomb of the Cybermen and what Troughton says to Victoria was very touching. (I did learn from the commentary that the little hand holding bit when the Doctor and Jamie walked into the tomb wasn’t a part of the story. Troughton and Hines did that on purpose for a laugh! :) ) I used to be a TOm Baker fan but Troughton took over as my favorite classic Doctor and Jamie will always be my favorite companion! :)

I used to come here for YAFGC but now I come more for the 10 Doctors is truly awesome. It’s one of the best webcomics out there. I only wish there was more of it.

  100. icarose

rich you are my new guilty pleasure i cheack your website every day to see for updates :-)

This has got to be one of hte funniest things that i have read in a long time, and i re-read them to cheer me up when i need it (and right now i do)

thank you so much for the time that you put into this i really brightens my day up and i am sure it’s the same for everyone else :-)

you have re inspired me to watch the Doctor who’s with the old doctors in them and not just the recent ones

  101. Arianna_BadWolf

I always thought it was “Brain of Mobius” Then again, I actually haven’t seen that episode, I’ve only read it (Its one of the 40+ Who novels I own or owned… don’t know about that till mum returns my books and I see if they suffered the flooding this season)
And knowing me, I am pretty sure it’s something other than what I read, considering I have funky vision.

But Connor, if you can’t get any of the other Who episodes or anything, I would suggest finding novels (hard to come by here in the US… I should know. I was lucky and found the ones I’ve got for a dollar at a garage sale…) or reading some of the novels they have at the official site. Not to mention they give you a pretty good run down of the episodes there as well. Just have to click the classic episodes link. It also gives some information with other links, like “Location of Gallifrey” “The Doctors Age” and so on. It’s pretty cool. Unless those links fried out like they did to me one day.

Anyway I ramble… I’m way too tired. And impatient for another strip Rich!
But break is over and I must return to work.

  102. Captain Chaotica

Yeah, the classic Who site at the BBC is cool. BE WARNED, though, that it will give you absolutely tons of spoilers for these episodes as well! (A major one was given about “Inferno” on this page already…) If you want to have any surprises for yourself–and trust me, it DOES make the experience better. It _so_ does–you will want to excercise caution.
Basically I’d only read episode guides of episodes AFTER I’d seen them.

The Doctor’s age is just one of those things that I think the individual has to make their own decision about…because the classic series’s continuity contradicts _itself_ about this issue and a fair few others!

Basically how I decide is subjective, but also based on some logic. The first age said that sounded reasonable is the one I go with. Taking that as the “truth”, I then accept _reasonable_ later claims, and instantly dump those that sound ridiculous.
One way to determine this is by the Companions. Any time where we have a Companion on board, huge amounts of time _cannot_ pass without us knowing it, ‘cos usually they age way faster than the Doctor and if he’s hundreds of years older, they’d be dead. (Unless it’s Romana or a robot character…)

So, like…the earliest claim we hear is Two saying he’s about 450. Sounds okay.
After that, however, Three’s claim of being “several thousand years” old _must_ be tossed out, ‘cos there’s no WAY that much time has passed. (That was an odd bit, anyway. Three wouldn’t flippantly lie in the middle of such a deadly serious situation, and certainly not to Liz.)

I suppose the “Season 6B” theory should be included here, but still, I don’t think Two aged _several thousand_ years when he was playing step and fetchit to the Time Lords. (I got the impression from…somewhere…that the average, normal Gallifreyan lifespan is about 600 years. Time Lords “die” of old age about that time too…it’s just that _they_ regenerate, whereas the normal civillians don’t.)

Four’s claim of about 750 to Sarah Jane is also not reasonable…because there wasn’t a huge gap where he could have aged without us also noticing it on the Companions much more. Now, if he had said that to _Leela_…clearly there WAS a time when he was by himself and did _some_thing, as Four, on her planet, that we didn’t see. Who knows how long that took.

Six’s claim of 900 is similarly suspect–the last time the Doctor had no Companion between episodes and MIGHT have run off for hundreds of years, was between Leela and Romana. Yet he still tells Romana One he’s 749. So no, he didn’t age to 900 then.
No, no, wait–he said that during Trial of a Timelord, right? And we don’t know how or _when_ he met Mel. So I GUESS some time could’ve passed…

Now, the _modern_ series’ claim of around 900 is more reasonable–we don’t know how much longer Seven lived between when Ace left and the events of the movie, or how long Eight’s entire life span was. Time could’ve passed there, sure. (Long enough to contain the Last Great Time War, anyway…)

So, that’s what I go by. (shrug)

And that’s just one example. Other stuff like how does regeneration work, how powerful _are_ Time Lords exactly, what does the surface of Gallifrey actually look like, is it possible to undo events in history, the history of the Daleks, etc…are all pretty fluid.
Basically all you can do is pick your favourite parts and decide your own version as you go along. Heh.

Then again, if the show _was_ all certain and cut and dried…we wouldn’t have as much to talk about! :)

As for getting episode titles wrong, heh…I know all about that, Arianna. I was thinking of Castrovalva as Castro_lava_ for the longest time. :P Not to mention the weird ways I was originally pronouncing “Tegan” and “Davros” before I actually heard them said…

    …Notorious

  103. Time Lord Enthusiast

I love this comic! I’ve read it so many times!!! This is my first comment.

Plus, if you haven’t heard, [ADMIN: Removed Casting Spoilers. STOP THAT!!]

Anyway, way to go Rich!!! Continue this great web comic. It’s the best web comic I’ve ever read and definitely the best Doctor Who Fan Fiction of all time!

  104. Ghosteh

    Huh? Where’d my post go…?

  105. Joe England

Y’know, now that I think about it, I’m not really sure it can be called a “casting spoiler.” It’s more like… just “news.” I mean, everyone will hear about it sooner or later (and most likely sooner). It’s not exactly a secret, being on the front page of Outpost Gallifrey, in dozens of media articles, and on the lips of fans and casual viewers everywhere. Heck, David announced it live in front of the entire audience at the National Television Awards. People may as well read about it here as anywhere else. Plus, it’s not going to happen until sometime in 2010. It’ll be hard to keep censoring ourselves for the next year and a half in regards to this particular bit of information.

  106. Hilary

Joe, I don’t think you get it. *I* didn’t want to know. And I’m sure there’re more folk out there who are also not interested in spoilers. If people want to find information on casting and episodes, they can go to sites specifically set out for that. Or hell – even the spoiler threads in our own forums.

This is not a place for discussion of anything except the comics posted here.

Ghosteh: I have deleted posts containing recent casting spoilers. If you want to discuss the topic of your post, please go to the forums – there is a spoiler thread there dedicated to the subject at hand.

  107. Joe England

I think it comes down to a sort of apples and oranges situation, though of course you’re in charge and I’ll certainly defer to your preference. I don’t mean to cause trouble or anything. Just discussing for the sake of discussion.

  108. Ghosteh

    Oops. Sorry, Hilary.

  109. Hilary

Joe: Once something is announced in the *mass* media, I’ll consider it fair game. That’s something like Entertainment Tonight announcing “Lindsay Lohan has signed to play the next Companion on BBC hit Dr. Who” [totally fictional example, people], or the entertainment columns in the newspaper, or some such. When NON-FANDOM types can’t miss it, it’s fair game.

I don’t read Doctor Who blogs, or the BBC website, or the LJ communities, and I found out about the spoiler here, on my website, from people posting comments. That kind of sucked. And it’s why I have spoiler topics and spoiler bars available in the forum.

It boils down to an equal blend of ‘don’t be a jackass,’ and ‘don’t assume that everyone plays in fandom at your level’… whatever that level happens to be.

  110. Darren

Hilary: In partial defence of Joe England, the topic he raised did make national news here in the UK, being reported on the news bulletins on mainstream TV channels and in most newspapers, too. I would agree with you, however, that this is a bit of a spoiler, and should have been posted on the forum instead.
