Hehe, nice, Rich. Love your work. Keep it up!

  2. Captain Shade

LOL…Way to go Paulus!!! Rich is so good at what he dose!!!

  3. xanderchan

    *giggles*

When do the legionaries with rifles turn up? (Yeah, I’ve been reading up on the setting) ^^

  4. herk

So he did bet 109 Sisterci with a chance of 1 to 4 (or 3 Sisterci with a chance of 1 to 110), right?

  5. eleventhdr

Oh dey camp town ladies sing this song doo da doo da!

  6. ch1ps

omg, Marcia looks just like Glitz…i’ve been reading too much 10 Doctors…

So Marcia and her brother are siblings…not husband and wife…d’oh!

Isn’t it spelled “sesterci” or something along those lines? With an ‘e’ at any rate. ?

  7. ch1ps

And what happened to Marcia’s stain?

  8. Heather

    *puts on nitpicker’s hat*

Actually, the plural of sestertius is sestertii. :)

  9. Dr. Bunsen

…. at least that’s how they spell it it the Asterix books! :) Well done Heather.

This Paulus fellow is interesting. Affable but rather ambiguous…. I wouldn’t really trust him…!

  10. Esprix

As much as I adore your artwork, and this strip is really cute, is it possible to make it so that it doesn’t show up on the Ten Doctors feed? That’s really all I’m able to keep up with these days, and that’s why I signed up for the feed.

    Thanks for letting us comment.

  11. JustAWanderer

Re-reading the last two strips, I’m a little confused. Didn’t Lafrenius (that is Lafrenius, isn’t it?) bet on the guy who lost?
But then, I guess there would have been more than one fight, so he could still come out ahead.

  12. Hilary

Esprix: I’ve messed with the code, and I think I’ve got it sorted out. If you subscribe to this feed:

    http://www.shipsinker.com/wordpress/category/drwho/feed

It should give you only Ten Doctors content. The original feed will continue to deliver all blog content.

  13. Beard

I always like seeing a Roman setting where people do things becides look dignified and try to act like they’re in Julius Ceasar.

  14. Gwirrin

So when is the ten doctors going on again?

  15. Leah

I really REALLY love these characters! They all have so much…er, character. I honestly love watching what happens with them as your mastery of body language continues to be spectacular.

  16. Captain Shade

Ok…I have to ask…Why the name Paulus?

  17. Rich

    Paderic: Thanks! Will do!

    Private Dark: Tanks!

xanderchan: Uh… when the story calls for ‘em. Heheheh… They’re comin’ eventually.

    herk: Uh… yes. :D

    eleventhdr: Oh, doo da daaay!

ch1ps: Yes. Yes you have. That’s right. Brother and sister. Um… it might be spelled that way. *looks it up* Yes. Yes it is. Sestertii.

    Gold star for you.

    ch1ps: Ugh. Got me again.

    Two gold stars.

    Heather: Eep!

    Et tu, Heather!

Dr.Bunsen: They’re right. Actually, in my research for things Roman and Gaul related, I’ve found that the Asterix books are remarkably useful!

    Esprix: Letting Hilary answer that.

JustAWanderer: Yeah, that was just one bout in the games.I didn’t want to deal with that too much.

    Hilary: My genius. :D

Beard: Part of my desire to do this too. People need to know that Imperial Rome isn’t ALWAYS Julius Caesar all the time.

Gwirrin: … When I do another page for it. In the meantime…

Leah: Thank you! Thank you very much!

Lt.Dark: I’d love to tell you Paulus was a teacher of mine in Roman HIstory, or it’s a tribute to some obscure historical figure… but the truth is I picked the name randomly out of a huge list of Roman Names.

  18. Captain Shade

    First a promotion,, then a massive demotion…Wow

  19. MarrowMan

I enjoy Rich’s versatility art/story wise with Paulus/10 Doctors/other projects he’s done It’s refreshing and highly entertaining, thanks for the hard work man.

  20. Dr. Bunsen

A few days ago I started the first Paulus-related thread on the Forum. Care to share your thoughts, folks? :)

  21. Turnip

Ahh, the glory days. By which I mean the days of gambling on violent, public entertainment!
As long as those pesky northern barbarians don’t try to invade again. Darned Visigoths…always know how to spoil a good time.

Poor Paulus. It’s true, though. I mean, basically the three uses for a horse would be military, Circus Maximus races, or for trade. And geography weakens the efficiency of the first and last options. Crossing the mountains with cavalry isn’t such a great idea, as history has shown, and horses don’t really get along well with ships. Water routes were better for trade anyway.
And I shouldn’t imagine breeding horses for chariot races would be very…well, rewarding. I mean, why go through all the effort of breeding a super horse when it’s going to be slaughtered? There’s no love in the Circus. D:

  22. JustAWanderer

Well, there are always chariot races …

  23. JustAWanderer

Sorry for the double post. Should’ve read the last part of the previous post before I hit “Submit.”

  24. Makkabee

Love the comic — we need more historically themed comics on the web. One quibble, though — while the Latin plural of sestertius does end in i, when it’s tranlated into the English word sesterce the plural as the standard -s ending. It should be sesterces.

  25. Leeanne

Do you knoy what happend to the arther tardis conisal rooms. There were 3 if my memry serves me right. The Docter could have used one of the athers when the paradocs meshin was it.
p.s Do you wouch HOUSE the TV shoe

  26. Kara

Your talk of paying back money inspired me to re-read the lovely and poetic words of Catullus.

    http://rudy.negenborn.net/catullus/text2/e103.htm

Thankfully, the exchange seen here went over a bit better.

  27. Arianna_BadWolf

Leeanne: There were two primary console rooms in the TARDIS. The white one, we see during most of the Classical series. During the “Masque of the Mandragora” the Doctor and Sara Jane use the other one, a console room with dark wood instead. (I am unsure if the original set was undergoing repairs or something else happened…) The darker one is ACTUALLY the primary as the Doctor says, and the white console room is the secondary.

HOWEVER the console room we see in the new series is MUCH more different than either we have seen. I think we can be lead to believe however that the Doctor just ‘redecorated’ as number 5 insinuated in “Time Crash” when ten met five, since it was stated (as far as I know) by the Doctor that all TARDIS’ have two console rooms. At least that model.

(FYI I actually have seen this episode as well as owning the novelization…)

and please leanne, do use spellcheck. It makes the world go round!

    Thank you, and good night!

  28. Arianna_BadWolf

P.S Haha… forgot to include this actually *is sheepish*

This update was pretty cool. But didn’t they use Drachma back then, or is that just Greece?

Now… it really is time to go. Sorry about that Rich.. if I could edit my posts I’d fix it…

  29. Leeanne

My name is spelt Leeanne every on always gets it wrong plus im not really good at spelling Arianna_BadWolf plus did you know that all daleks came from earth before they came from the plant Skro. The daleks are what the human race be cum in the end.

  30. Arianna_BadWolf

Incorrect Leanne. Daleks are from Skaros originally. Primarily the housing unit is occupied by a mutated Kaled (which is where their name is derived if you move two letters around), but more often they are being occupied with humans, since the Daleks started spreading around to earth.
Your theory might be correct IF Skaros was really earth. You might want to look up your Dalek history. Their first invasion of Earth happened in the 22nd century.
But you might not want to further this argument here, considering this is no place for such an argument, and you obviously haven’t done your homework. I’ve been watching Dr Who for well over 20 years, I knew more about Daleks when I was five than I knew about barbies.

    Here, do some research
    http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/History_of_the_Daleks#Dalek_History
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/dalekhistory1.shtml

the creature I think you are speaking of are the Toclafane, from Last of the Time Lords, New Series, Season 3. They were created from the last of the humans trying to reach Utopia at the end of the Universe/time. They were brought back to earth using a paradox machine in the Doctors TARDIS.
