The 10 Doctors: page 7

The 1st Doctor uses his natural commanding nature to make the other Doctors explain what is going on. The 2nd Doctor tries to break the news gently, but the 3rd Doctor has to clarify.

Rose has a major flip-out when she discovers that the Doctor has a FAMILY somewhere, somewhen.

Some of this requires a bit of explanation. The 1st Doctor has come in from shortly before the pilot of the original series. It wasn’t until he and Susan landed and stayed in 1960’s England before the series that the TARDIS chameleon circuit broke down. So he doesn’t immediately recognize the Police Box TARDISes of all his successors. He knows they’re Time Lords, that’s all. He figures he’s been ‘caught’. (The Doctor claims to have left Gallifrey on the run because he was bored. But we learn later that there’s far more to his history then he’s implied. Depends how much of it we take seriously, though. He must have, at one time, been a very important figure).

    These are fantastic! *bookmarks*

  2. UndeniablyNikki

I love your depiction of Rose. Haha…I wish this had actually happened. A nice slap in the face for her.

  3. Steven

You have the second Doctor PERFECTLY in character there in the 5th panel!
And the “You. Explain.” line made me laugh. Don’t know why though!

  4. bob

i don’t get why rose is so shocked in her timeline she’s already beeen told the doctor had kids he told her in fathers day

  5. Levanta T.

And the only reason he’s “got kids” is because he’s the Other or something like that. I’m just guessing. Because you never see the other, do you?

  6. Bob

he’s got kids just because he got married and He Must Have Had Kids Because He Has Susan (Granddaughter)

  7. Levanta T.

Or someone messed with his deoxyribonucleic acid. According to a Wikipedia explanation I am still trying to prove.

  8. Not Daniel

Actually, the Rose who’s still traveling with the Ninth Doctor wouldn’t know he had had kids, because she doesn’t find that out until “Fear Her,” by which time he’d regenerated.

  9. Karthegrax

    Exactly. :P

  10. Rich

That and there’s no television proof of the whole ‘loom’ theory.
So far, according to the series, Time Lords procreate and have children just like everyone else.

  11. Rich

And had a granddaughter in the first three seasons, mentions his family in “Tomb of the Cybermen”, mentions a brother in “Smith & Jones”, and -though it has to be taken with a spoonful of salt, describes watching a meteor shower on Gallifrey with his father in the Fox film.

  14. Kitty~10fan

Wahaha!!! 2 funny things in this page!

    1. “You. Explain.”.
    and
    2. Rose’s reaction to the “Grandfather” comment from Susan. “You WERE planning on telling me you had kids, yeah!?”.

    lol x

  15. LondonsCallin1

HAHA love the part bout all the blue boxes parked all over, brilliant!

I agree that Susan’s the Doctors granddaughter, but question what that may mean on Gallifrey. After all, in the “5 Doctors” the 1st Doctor felt the need to introduce Susan to his other selves, and she never called any of them “Grandfather”. Perhaps the family bonds don’t cross over after regeneration (a possibility), or…perhaps she calls him Grandfather in an honorific way. It’s not a popular theory of mine, but I’ve saud to several other Whovians that “Susan Foreman” may simply be a human companion that the first Doctor picked up and basicly adopted as his granddaughter. After all, she seems not to consider the other Doctors to be her Grandfather, and he did basicly abandon her on Earth…to marry or simply live with a man who she’d only known for a few days or so. That hardly seems to be the sort of thing a Gallifrey would do to a family member.

As I said, it’s just a theory. I rather wish she’d appear in one of the newer episodes. For that mater, couldn’t she regenerate as well? Was she drawn into the whole “Time War”, or was she forgotten on post-Dalek Invasion Earth…just waiting to be reintroduced?

  17. Rich

They managed to make sure that Susan doesn’t call any of the other Doctors ANYTHING. To me, the wonder in her eyes when she gazes upon the 5th Doctor speaks volumes to me about the connection. It’s almost like when you’re looking at old photos of your grandparents when they were young and trying to reconcile these people with the wrinklies you know and are standing right next to you.

Dialogue in the pilot also makes it very clear that they’re from the same place in exile together.
She’s Gallifreyan (She knows Gallifrey well enough!) and she’s his granddaughter.
What you’re describing is what happened with Vickie and Dodo and all her other “replacements” and they never called him Grandfather.

Whether she could regenerate or not was never made clear (They invented regeneration long after she’d left the series), but I would presume not. She seems a bit young to be a Time Lord (Rodan and Romana both appear to be newish Time Lords and they’re both young adults rather than teens).

  18. John Feaster

    Well, if she’s a Gallifreyan, I guess she can…

But, what I meant about her past was that she might have been raised by the Doctor, and assume (heck, be told) that she and he are the same species…but might actually be some human foundling from any time period.

Though…I don’t really think so. The idea comes to me when I try to imagine anyone abandoning their granddaughter (she’s about 16 or 18 for goodness sakes!) in strange and dangerious place. Heck, that’s what someone does when their getting rid of an unwanted pet…

  19. Lewis

Sorry but “An Unearthly Child” implied Susan to be his biological grand-daughter, so I stick to that. Lots of things/ideas have been raised ever since, but we should remain true to the original. No arty-farty fancy from me. Yeah, things contradict it, but there are 1000s of contradictions in Who.

  20. John Feaster

Doubtless your right…but that still leaves Susan dumped by the side of the road. Though…there’s no reason why someone can’t someday write a story where we find the Doctor had returned for her years later. Perhaps to a Gallifreyan, such an abandonment is seen as a learning expierence. They are – after all – aliens, and the Doctors affection for humans is seen as somewhat unusual. It must be like a naturalist running leaving his own society to live with the apes he studies. And eventually, start having ‘unnatural’ relations with them ;>)

  21. Lewis

The Doctor didn’t dump her though. He saw the subtle actions throughout “Dalek Invasion” and knew she’d be safe with David. As the Doctor said himself, Susan was a young woman now and she couldn’t travel with her grandfather forever. She was bound to settle eventually, and what better time to settle than with someone who loves and needs her.

  22. Swiss Koala

Hopefully, this doesn’t get erased or flagged for spoilers, but…

I just thought of this…what the 1st Doctor does with Susan bears some resemblance to what the 10th Doctor does with/to Rose Tyler at the end of JE. (I do think in both cases he had the right intentions, albiet, perhaps not the kindest way of carrying out said intentions (aka: wanting people he cared about (in one way or another) to be happy and live out their life with someone they could love and be safe & happy with)

  23. Randy

So far up to this point, we’ve seen all the Doctors but Four and Eight, right? I assume Tom and Paul will crawl out of the woodwork eventually…

  24. Steve_E

Don’t forget how number 4 left Sarah. It’s all part of the patern.
